Imagine the Champions League only featured champions. Forgotten nations would have an equal share of competitive football again. And the league. Suddenly three of the top four teams who don’t win the league have to throw everything at the FA Cup for Europe. Real jeopardy. Sport.
'Imagine?! Like it used to be you mean?!' I'm 33 and have read up on football history. I know how it used to be. That was the point of the tweet. Football worked and was fairer for all champions/domestic cup winners across Europe and had sporting integrity and competition.
@EllBretland It would be guff. I’ve no interest in seeing Man City v the Cypriot champions.
@EllBretland You mean like when it was the European cup?
The ‘Actual Champions’ League 24/25 A Real Madrid 🇪🇸 Celtic 🏴 Brondby 🇩🇰 NK Celje 🇸🇮 B Bayer Leverkusen 🇩🇪 Red Star Belgrade 🇷🇸 APOEL 🇨🇾 Qarabag 🇦🇿 C Inter 🇮🇹 Sparta Prague 🇨🇿 Rijeka 🇭🇷 Slovan Bratislava 🇸🇰 D PSV 🇳🇱 BSC Young Boys 🇨🇭 Malmo 🇸🇪 HJK Helsinki 🇫🇮
@EllBretland I’m sure everyone will be eager to watch Shamrock Rovers vs Flora Tallinn. As great as it’s good in theory, in practice no one would watch it. More sense would be to rename UCL but probably is too well known name to do it.
@EllBretland I'm sure everyone will be tuning in for the two leg quarter final where PSG take 15 goals off Raków Częstochowa.
