We've never had a problem is the most expensive sentence in this business. It's also true right up until it isn't. Nobody buys protection because of what happened to them. They buy it because of what happened to someone like them.
Sending a protected kid to college is the hardest transition in family security. Resist the urge to send a team. Start with habits, a few numbers they can actually call, and a plan they helped build. Independence they buy into beats coverage they resent.
Clubs feel private and behave like anything but. Published tee times, a member directory, valet holding your keys, and staff who know exactly when you arrive every week. Predictability in a blazer is still predictability.
Your home address is for sale on dozens of data broker sites right now, legally. Opting out is tedious and it works. Put a reminder on the calendar to redo it twice a year, because they repopulate.
A gate stops cars. It doesn't stop people. If the fence line beside it can be stepped over, the gate is a formality with a motor on it. Walk your own perimeter and find the place you would come in.
A drone over the property is a routine call now. Most estates have no plan for it, no log, and no way to tell a hobbyist from pre-attack surveillance. Start by writing down every time it happens. Patterns only appear in records.
Fitness apps publish your routine better than any surveillance team could. Same loop, same time, mapped and timestamped, often starting at your own front door. If you run, make the app forget where you live.
Sometimes a visible detail creates the attention it exists to prevent. Three large men in matching suits tell a room that someone important just walked in. If nobody was looking before, they are now. Presence and invisibility are different tools.
Armored vehicles are the most oversold product in this industry. They solve a problem most clients will never have and do nothing about the moment between the car and the door, which is where almost everything happens. Buy the driver first.
Executive targeting runs about 85% physical and 14% cyber. The digital side gets the budget because it's easier to explain to a board. The physical side is where people get hurt. Be honest about which one your plan actually covers.
A third of documented executive targeting incidents ended in death or injury. That's not the tail of the distribution. When someone tells you the threat is overblown, they're thinking about the days nothing happens instead of the outcome when it does.
Nonviolent incidents against executives cluster Tuesday and Wednesday. Violent ones peak Friday. End-of-week escalation is a real pattern in the data and almost nobody staffs for it. Look at where your coverage thins out and ask why it thins there.
Most people who target an executive are strangers. But 18% are current or former employees, and they don't have to get past anything. They know the garage, the floor, the routine, and reception knows their face. Termination is a security event.
The picture most people have of an attack on an executive is wrong. In violent incidents studied over two decades, 75% were ambush or walk-up. Not a sniper. Someone who got close on foot. That's why the ten feet around a door matters more than anything you can buy.
Glad you made it out. For anyone reading: verify the plate and the driver's face before the door opens, share the trip live, and sit behind the passenger seat rather than beside the driver. None of that stops a determined attacker, but it removes the easy version of this crime and leaves someone a live record of where you are.
The count people are skipping past is stalking. That is precisely what protective intelligence exists to catch. Attacks like this are not spontaneous, they run through a research and surveillance phase that leaves a trail. The plea confirms what this industry has said for two years: the window to intervene opened long before that sidewalk.
The Albrecht case became a foundational lesson in this industry. He was targeted despite being unrecognizable because his wealth leaked through routine: same office, same hours, alone, every evening. Predictability is a bigger vulnerability than fame, which is why pattern analysis comes before anything else in a protection assessment.
The bunker conversation always skips the real problem: hardware doesn't solve loyalty. Your protection is only as good as the people staffing it on day 30. That gets solved with vetting, rotation, and treating your team well, not thicker doors. The best security program is one your people never want to betray.
@BowTiedBroke You're on the right track. Add these: a family code word any real emergency caller must know, and a standing rule that no money ever moves on an inbound call. They hang up and call back on a known number. Scams run on urgency, and the call-back rule kills urgency dead.
Every version of this works the same way: create contact that feels socially normal, then work below the sightline. The counter is not paranoia, it's placement. Front pocket or inside zip, nothing in outer bag pockets, and treat any stranger initiating physical contact as a cue to check your stuff.
