It turns out it is pretty hard to describe the experience of a total eclipse of the sun. I just don’t have good words for it. I would simply recommend going when and if you can.
@EricRWeinstein I found it underwhelming. If you have seen nighttime, you have experienced most of what an eclipse is about.
@EricRWeinstein Was this your first total solar eclipse?
@EricRWeinstein Everyone who watched it at the same location described it differently. Very amazing
@EricRWeinstein agree. was a spectacular experience.
@EricRWeinstein I thought the eclipse was better than the first time I had sex but not as good as the last time I had sex.
I describe it as a sensation deep within the primal part of body that has relied on the certainty of the sun for 99%+ percent reliability since birth. Similar to an overview effect but a powerful reconnection to that primal instinct, which is responding to something it doesn’t understand. The first thought that popped into my head was a lightbulb moment of how an ancient aspiring Pharaoh/ruler/scientist who could predict the exact timing of the path of totality… could convince any number of followers to believe he was a literal god with the power to block out the sun… and then to restore it…
@EricRWeinstein It truly is remarkable. A couple years back we had ours in Oregon and like you said , there isn't an easy way to describe the whole experience. Just extraordinary.
