@brent_raycroft @APTNInvestigate There is another side to this, which is that this program was introduced to farm thousands of goats to sell milk to a Chinese infant formula company. Another side to this is the media leaving that out of all coverage, along with the $38 million+ price tag.

Prisoners across Canada are producing goods for crown corporations and more recently, for public consumption. Experts warn the true cost of this labour goes far beyond dollars, raising difficult questions about dignity, rehabilitation and justice. Published: Tell-all investigative report on reopened prison farms in Kingston, ON. Includes "smoking gun" plan to use CDN prison labour to supply goat milk for Chinese infant formula. Shockingly, that's only the beginning of what's wrong with this story. evolveourprisonfarms.ca/prison-farms-e…

@Spahrtygirl Thank you! The closure was done very quietly by CSC. "Don't look, nothing to see here!" You know the saying, if abattoirs had glass walls... We shone a light and now this intersectional atrocity is no more. Thanks for your support every step of the way!

Joyceville Institution abattoir now closed but industry wants to keep prisoners in the killing business because farmers are "in a dither" without cheap prison labour. Is there no shame? Society has turned a blind eye to this for too long. thewhig.com/news/local-new…

@MidgardCottage @CSC_SCC_en Thank you, yes it's a victory! CSC, politicians, and industry may attempt to reopen it one day, but we'll remain vigilant to ensure that the closure is permanent.

The @WhigStandard published our response to the beef industry's letter calling Bloody Bad Business: Report on the Joyceville Institution Abattoir "biased bull." Documents speak for themselves & slaughter is not good for prisoners as beef industry claims. thewhig.com/opinion/letter…

Beef industry blasts Bloody Bad Business, calls Joyceville Abattoir Report "bull," defends abattoir's economic importance to industry & says killing animals is good for inmates. What's misleading? Facts exposed in CSC's own documents, or industry's denial? thewhig.com/opinion/letter…

@CSC_SCC_en What transferable skills? Inmates at Collins Bay & Joyceville had no interest & say bees are dead. Infested with mites. This threatens wild pollinators too, not good for environment. Honey given free to staff. Who benefits? Just distraction from goat farm. bit.ly/3y6esw5
