Appreciate the support, but “If you’re an asshole to ex-Nazis they’ll go back to being Nazis” is a bad argument that people should stop making. No, we won’t, and whether you realize it or not you’re feeding the outrage.

I have to admit I’m skeptical of the need some people feel to constantly remind us that we aren’t normal. Neither are the circumstances. No one is under any obligation to hear us out, but consider leaving us alone instead. I promise there are other ways to get easy likes!

Just read “Confronting Fascism”. A lot of really prescient analysis in there. Definitely one to read and discuss if you’re perplexed by things like fascist appropriation of left-wing slogans, or why some white nationalists see kinship in jihadists.

Maybe this is a fairly common trajectory but I do think some of us get in and then are in denial not only about the violence but the sick joy people take in it and then have to come to terms with it and having enabled it. Fascism is no movement for kindhearted people.

This is kind of a half truth imo. Most in the broad alt-right, which qualifies as fascist, will fall into one of these two categories but the more extreme ideological variants genuinely want a universal totalitarian order.
