In Mao’s Cultural Revolution, school teachers were used as a revolutionary arm, which is why you’d find many school teachers wearing the armbands of the revolutionary, and why you’d see images of them taking children to destroy the “Old Ways” (statues, books, etc).

When the People’s Republic declared its existence in China in 1949, it began making changes in the school curriculum. In 1950, the communists added two courses: one on Darwin’s Theory of Evolution & the other teaching the Marxist theory of social development.
