I’ve never been more convinced that to make an outstanding indie game with some « soul », the primary inspiration must be something from your real life, something in your guts, some kind of « life experience ». Not another video game, not a movie, not a tv show.

We were hard into playtesting Haven (i.e. watching normal people play the WiP game) when the lockdown started. And we definitely NEED playtesting to make a good game. So we set up a new way of playtesting. I’ll be watching the testers play on Steam/Discord starting next week!

@Donatbihr For me the value of playtests is 99% the lead devs watching players. I don’t do questionaries anymore. So sending a build with a form to fill was not what I wanted. I want to watch. So we thought of screensharing/remote control/screenrecording etc. Discord feels the best pick.

Very glad to see Furi recognized for its story, which is one part of the game I’m the most proud of. It’s one side of the game that exceded my expectations. The game is famous for its gameplay and soundtrack, but really, it has a very deep story, I think. culturedvultures.com/best-ps4-story…

Yesterday, I played a tennis match in a tournament, and after crushing me, my opponent came to the net to shake hands and said « Are you Emeric Thoa from The Game Bakers? » « euuh… yes » « Oh! I loved Furi! Thanks a lot for Furi, what a great game » and so on. Best defeat ever.

I'd love to create a sequel for furi, not the conventional type of sequel that starts where the previous episode stopped, more like Nier games, same universe but situated in another age. Something completely different and edgy but with a strong relevant philosophy

....too well balanced games like smash ultimate are great and fun but for a reason i ignore i can’t really keep playing them seriously

For a reason i ignore i have a preference for unbalanced games, they push players to find ways to deal with flaws of the game and create memorable moments. I’m thinking about games like world of warcraft classic super smash bros brawl or Naruto storm 2
