Scene: hotel lobby, 11:00 pm. What I saw: grown men having a one-armed pushup competition. They were there for a business conference. I think the winner got to be CEO or at least a free basket of hot wings. What’s yr definition of #corporateculture ?

5. You don’t get over fears by ignoring them. Step up. Recording w/o a large audience doesn’t make speaking on camera easier. I thrive on audience reaction. I’m not used to the 🎥 yet, but I’ll get there. Chins up, buttercups. If u hate public speaking, you’re in the right place.

4. Practical speaking advice: don’t cross yr ankles, wring yr hands, look too serious, use verbal fillers like “um” or “you know.” Do: show open palms, relax, breathe, look around the room, practice but don’t memorize yr speech.

3. Don’t be afraid to look like a fool. The fool/jester is always closest to the king and queen. Use yr humor & personality. If you have neither, smile big. Kidding, sort of, but srsly, the saying “failure is not an option” is totally wrong. It’s the only option. Until it’s not.

2. What’s your stance on failure? If you hate it, you’re doing it wrong. Embrace failure every day. Without it, you won’t get better at public speaking or anything else. Record yourself, watch it, cringe, learn, repeat.
