During my field trip in the Rutshuru district in Eastern congo, I was amazed to attend a community session supported by @UNICEFDRC to sensitize women around food and nutrition- a way to detect and prevend malnutrition among children under 5
In Eastern Congo, malnutrition rates among children under 5 remain alarmingly high. Yet, I saw fields of sweet potatoes thriving-an energy-rich food,rich in protein. Sadly, these crops are destined for sale to generate income for families, rather than to feed their own children.
A Rutshuru 🇨🇩, certains parents considèrent encore le mariage des enfants comme un moyen de protéger leurs filles. Or, cette pratique les expose davantage à d’autres risques. 👉🏿Les communautés s’engagent pour protéger les filles, promouvoir leur éducation et défendre leurs droits
2 weeks ago, 2 schools were still standing at this place. Today, only ashes remain after a devastating fire destroyed homes and claimed lives, including children. We returned to the site and found a community slowly trying to pick itself up, rebuild, and move forward… #Bukavu
