1. Consent is withdrawn the same way it is given. The delegates are elected by every rank, the assembly they form elects the leadership, so that same assembly can recall a delegate or remove a leadership that walks away from the mandate. That is the whole point of putting legitimacy at the bottom instead of the top. The old model had no such mechanism at all. That is exactly what I am suggesting to fix. 2. Evidence is the wrong test, because any faction can produce evidence for itself after the fact. The test is structural. Goals written down before the leaders are chosen. An assembly where TPLF members sit with the weight the fighters give them and no more. A leadership held to that one mandate and nothing else. Decisions taken inside that structure are Tigrai's by construction. Decisions taken outside it belong to a faction, whoever makes them. Today that structure does not exist. That is why we are all having these questions in the first place and why I wrote the piece. 3. Any criticism measured against the mandate is legitimate and it serves Tigrai. A commander who ignores the assembly, a decision that puts a party before the nation, a fight dragged in that the goal never called for, a wrong done to civilians, a plan kept from the people carrying it. Say all of that as loud as you like. My whole piece is a criticism of the model as it stands today and nobody gets to call it an attack on Tigrai. Criticism stops being legitimate at one point only, when its conclusion is that the TDF should stand down while the nation is under a genocide. That is a demand to disarm wearing the clothes of a critique. The people making it never have an answer for what happens to Tigrai the morning after. Which is one more reason to write the goal down. Once it is written, criticism has a yardstick and so does the accusation. Until then though, everyone shouts traitor, everyone shouts cult and nobody has to prove anything. 🙏🏾

The thread is below. 4 years on, Tigrai's territory is still occupied, the displaced are still in camps and the drones are always over our towns. Abiy answered that chance with a war on Tigrai's unity. Thanks for the lesson, I guess. 🤷🏾‍♂️ Tigrai has been fighting fascism from every direction since 2020. Addis, Asmara and everyone they armed. That fight never ended. Except only the so called “leaders” pretending it did. We all stood with the TDF then, I STILL DO. My allegiance is to the Tigrai Nation and the TDF is Tigrai's defense. I don’t want to sound irrational or overly emotional, but posts like this genuinely infuriate me. Just because some of us are not currently in Tigray does not mean we have no say in matters that directly affect our lives, our families, and our future. 1/6

Elitism at its finest! Read how he writes about us. Eritrea gets motives, Egypt gets motives, Sudan gets interests, even the federal army gets credit for learning its lessons but Tigrians? Tigraians get counted. We are a "mobilisation environment" and a supply of "recruits." Our capacity to suffer is measured and found wanting. A people with thousands of years of history is reduced to a variable in someone else's model. That is elitism. It is the superiority of a man who thinks he understands a people better than they understand themselves. He didn’t ask hard enough about what a cause does to people. A cause turns farmers into fighters and mothers into the backbone of a resistance. It makes ordinary people carry what no army could ever force on them. Occupation feeds that cause. Every humiliation recruits more people than any “party card” ever could. He knows all of this. In Oromia, Abiy's own home and his people have taken up arms against this government for years. Jawar himself was thrown in prison by it. If Abiy cannot make peace with the land that raised him, what makes Jawar think Tigrai will kneel to him? I’m sure he has seen/read how resistance grows among his own people. He points to the Tigraians now fighting alongside Abiy as “proof the bond is broken”. Let’s say the arguable look at how little support that Peace Force has found among Tigraians is significant. That’s a sliver of what the TDF still holds. Look at what those “TPFs” have done. They marched into Tigraian towns beside the army that bombed their own people. That is betrayal and they will have to live with it. But they are still Tigraians. One day, they will wake up from this stupidity and see whose army is standing on their land among their mothers. Blood and memory run deeper than any of it. A wise analyst would ask “how long that alignment survives contact with Tigraian reality?” He doesn't. Jawar writes as if the TPLF is finished. I don't believe it is. But “even if he is right”, who stops the stories? In every Tigraian household, children will hear what was done to their people and who stood where. Nations remember. Shame does not dissolve with a press release. It gets passed down. And it waits. Jawar wants to sound like a statesman of the Ethiopian state. But a state that asks a people to accept humiliation as the price of citizenship has nothing to offer them. How does any future Tigrai, with or without the TPLF, carry this shame inside that state? He never asks so because the answer ruins his conclusion. If there is one people around the horn that knows how to get back up, it is Tigrai. We have been written off more times than anyone cares to count. We outlived every one of those obituaries. Analyze the TPLF all you want.
