“So what’s charging the batteries right now? What’s the source of electricity?” … wait for it …
Our @facebook fact checker friends at it again, marking this completely not out of context video as “missing context.” 😂
@FiveTimesAugust So proud of their electric cars which are powered by 95% coal.
@FiveTimesAugust Coal accounts for just under 20% of electric power generation in the United States. And falling. It’s possible to convert many coal plants into cleaner natural gas, which is the most abundant source. Nuclear and renewables account for about 40%.
@FiveTimesAugust @RitaPanahi Just so you all know, an EV charged on coal fired electricity is still, on balance, less polluting than an equivalent gas car, and the % of US electricity generated by coal is around 20% and shrinking, so this isn't the gotcha you think it is. forbes.com/sites/mikescot…
@FiveTimesAugust @BaronDestructo Coal is just dead trees and trees are renewables.
@FiveTimesAugust @JasonBermas How much carbon is emitted into the atmosphere to create one battery?! What is the expected lifespan of one battery? Where does the battery go when it's used up? How much carbon is emitted to recycle one battery?? This is fun. I like asking questions
@FiveTimesAugust Either way I’d still rather have electric cars that aren’t spuing fumes out in my street, Even if some coal is used for the original power. (Hopefully that will be more green energy in the future). But the air quality where we walk/run should be better.
