🧵: The @NDP motion tomorrow is predictable, pseudo-legal puffery. It says what it always says about moral equivalence between Israel & Hamas, hostages & civilians. But it did sneak in that 🇨🇦 recognize* a sub-national region* as a throw in. That’s a dangerous stunt. Why?
Recognizing the plight of innocent civilians is easy. Recognizing a subnational jurisdiction run by a terrorist organization - as defined by 🇨🇦 law - as a state is a dereliction of parliamentary duty. Did @NDP ask for 🇨🇦 recognize parliamentary democratic Taiwan? No. Why? Hmm
Recognizing a state is among the most serious decisions a country could ever take. If other countries recognized Quebec as a state in 1976, 1980 or 1995 we would have been in crisis. And QC though was run by a democratically elected separatist govt! Not a murdering rape gang.
@FlavioVolpe1 @NDP Listen, I'm all for getting rid of Hamas, but I'm entirely certain Israel aren't willing to let the UN organize free and fair elections, the first since 2005? Also... How the duck would you even hold elections when 2/3 of the strip is literally rubble?
