I feel like the world is at a critical moment due to the war in Ukraine, where world leaders can take the side of the people, or take the side of the fossil fuel industry. There is no in-between.

If you look at what's happening with Europe and Russia, it's a compelling reason to transition rapidly and completely away from fossil fuels even setting aside civilization-ending climate breakdown.

Scientists and the International Energy Agency both agree there can be no new fossil fuel infrastructure for a chance of limiting warming to 1.5C and avoiding huge suffering. The latest forecast has just come in for the number of new oil & gas wells expected in 2022: 118,500

Around the world - including the UK, US and India - water is being taken from the ground much faster than it is replenished. Intensive agriculture and climate change are depleting groundwater, drying up wells, springs and streams. My well is bone dry, in February.

I wonder whether so much of the news media is reluctant to report on climate & ecological scientific findings because so many of those findings present an implicit critique of our current systems & assumptions, and so even the act of reportage seems "activist" in some way? 1/2

I think that climate experts are generally happy to do whatever to end fossil fuels and halt global heating, but I can't help but feel that big corporations should offer consulting fees when they ask for more than one hour of our time and effort.

Full disclosure, I feel pretty desperate about climate inaction and the coming heatwaves, food price spikes, destabilization etc., for real. It comes out sometimes.
