Tax season is so fun. I just click through TurboTax until it tells me it's all done. I have no idea if it's right
@mrbupp I don’t get why we have to do it in the first place. Can’t they just see how much we got from our 1040 automatically? Why do we need to fill all this stuff out. Should be super simple IMHO
@ForSureByDesign @mrbupp The fact you don't know the IRS gets the info from your W-2, not the 1040 says a lot. There's too many factors involved to say what you actually owe. Other income, medical deductions, property taxes, energy credits, the list goes on.
@ForSureByDesign @mrbupp In some places, it is that way. They also somehow in the same vain are incapable of understanding where billions of the dollars they spend go, but know down to the penny what all you've spent your entire life. Unless you're rich. In which case they do, but won't interfere.
@ForSureByDesign @mrbupp you dont want to take any deductions?
@ForSureByDesign @mrbupp There is technically a bit more to it than that but yes, they could do all the work for you, it's called return free filing and many countries do it. We don't mainly because the tax filing industry has a too much power in the government.
@ForSureByDesign @mrbupp Because companies like Turbo Tax lobby the government. Quit giving them your money and this crap will stop.
@ForSureByDesign @mrbupp It's my understanding that lobbying makes it this way because it's how these companies can stay in business.
@ForSureByDesign @mrbupp There have been multiple proposals from Democrats to just this. Two things standing in the way: - Republicans want tax filing to be as difficult and painful as possible. - Intuit has fiercely lobbied against this since it's a cornerstone of their business model.
@ForSureByDesign @mrbupp Almost every country does this but not the US. Its insane imo.
