Over the past 20 years USDA has increased #corn ending stocks 4 times on the February report. The average trade guess for tomorrows report is ⬆️24 million bshl.

It's usually difficult for farmers to collect the data to calculate the profitability metrics for their farm & business. Ease of collecting the information is key. Farmers shouldn't be having to do manual entry!

Goal of borrowing someone else’s money is to make a profit on it. If the business' Return on Invested Capital (ROIC) is > Cost of debt, the business is making a profit on borrowed money–– Positive use of financial leverage is far more important now! #farming #agvocate

More than two tillage passes is just about never the most profitable tillage system. Even if a farmer produces a higher yield with this tillage system, the few extra bushels do not pay for the additional passes. Another learning courtesy of @ilcorn_PCM #AgTwitter #agriculture

Like in any other (mostly) efficient market.. trading #corn or #soybeans is hard if you're trying to gain a consistent edge over everyone else. Bottom ticking and peak-selling is near impossible. But what we can do reasonably consistently is manage our risk. #AgTwitter

Rising Rates! A farmer with op-loan of $700/acre might go from paying $14/acre in interest on a half-year term to paying ~2x of that. For a 1k acre farmer, that's a ~$14k/year profit impact. Where can one lean more on Cash over financing, discipline and efficiency? #agtwitter

This weeks farm observations: #Urea was quoted to me at the lowest price I’ve seen since last summer. One farmer told his new equipment ordered a year ago is arriving earlier than expected. It appears the “buy early & often” strategy has run its course. Has #inflation cooled?

One of our farmers who drills deep on squaring settlements x contracts x tickets believes 3-4% of his loads are susceptible to payment mistakes: "I had 30-some loads where they didn’t do it right and it was $8,000 after I did the work and showed them." Time to solve. #agvocate

The most profitable tillage system for corn grown in high-productivity soil is 2-pass light tillage. The 2nd pass with light tillage equipment (eg: cultivator or vertical-till implement) produces enough incremental yield to pay for itself! #agriculture #agvocate #agtwitter

The much higher interest rates will affect farmers: 1) Financing vs buying in cash will be more expensive, and 2) The breakeven (in prices, yields, etc) to cover big investments will increase. Other lever: more discipline on costs, ROI, decisions. #AgTwitter #AgTech #farming
