What’s your ideal situation come end of the season for Leicester? Manager - Ownership - League position- #lcfc

Overall Review — 6/10 An extremely frustrating game for Leicester. With the game 11 v 11, there were three or four opportunities inside the opening 15 minutes where a more clinical side could have taken control of the game. Leicester looked the better side and, particularly after the red card, were very comfortable. You felt that if the tempo had been increased, there was another goal there for Leicester. The biggest complaint afterwards will obviously be the slow tempo, particularly in the second half. Leicester were ultimately caught out playing from the back, albeit from a poor pass near the halfway line, and one ball through left Reyes in behind. There wasn’t really much the goalkeeper could do from there, but what was disappointing was that Leicester never really responded by increasing the intensity. It felt more like Leicester were going to continue playing in the same way and wait for the goal to eventually come, rather than actively going out and forcing the game. From what we saw, that goal never looked particularly likely to arrive. I didn’t think the substitutions improved Leicester either, although at the same time I’m not sure there was a huge amount sitting on the bench that could have completely changed the game. As critical as I’ve been of Russell Martin’s style of play and how things have gone so far, I actually think this particular game was more on the players. The game was there to be won. Leicester created the opportunities, particularly early on, but ultimately didn’t take them. A 1-1 draw feels like a harsh result considering how long Barnsley played with ten men, but Barnsley will obviously be delighted to come away with a point after defending with ten for so long. For Leicester, though, it’s another two points dropped and another result that puts more pressure on Russell Martin. I felt he really needed a big win before this international break to try and get some of the supporters back on side, but unfortunately that hasn’t happened. The break now gives Martin and the players a few weeks to work together on the training ground and, particularly for those remaining at the club, really understand the style of football he’s trying to implement and find a way of making it work. Because if Leicester come back after the international break and we see another month of performances and results like this, the pressure is only going to increase — and depending on the club’s financial situation, difficult decisions may eventually have to be made.

Substitutions — 4/10 Leicester made five substitutions, but unfortunately there wasn’t a huge amount of impact from the players coming off the bench. Woyo coulibaly came on at half-time and had a few tidy moments in possession, but overall he didn’t look like someone who particularly wanted to be playing for Leicester or someone with much of a future at the club. As soon as JJ is ready to return to the team, I’d much rather see him back involved and getting minutes ahead of Coulibaly. Wes Burns was another who struggled to make much of an impact. Aside from one good run where he managed to beat his defender, there wasn’t really much to show for his time on the pitch. His play was fairly simple and he didn’t really add enough to the Leicester attack. Tommy Watson is another player I’m still waiting to see more from. Brought in as something of a coup from Brighton, he currently doesn’t look up to the standards we need. He slowed the play down on a number of occasions and became quite predictable, constantly cutting inside from the wing. Unlike Alves, though, he doesn’t seem particularly willing to take his man on. There were also a couple of tame efforts at the back post which, with someone more clinical in those positions, could potentially have resulted in goals in the second half. Howell and Reid weren’t really on the pitch long enough to properly affect the game. The final 10 minutes became quite stop-start and Leicester never really managed to build any momentum, so it’s difficult to give either of them a meaningful assessment. Overall, the substitutions didn’t really improve Leicester and, if anything, the attacking threat dropped after the changes.
