Many contentious or quarrelsome people are attracted to the discipline of apologetics... In circles such as my own that emphasize (rightly, in my view) a militant orthodoxy, gentleness is the most neglected of the biblical virtues. (Apologetics, 28-29)
If we do not teach, our errors affect only ourselves; but if we do, our errors can affect others also. Thus, errors in those who teach are more serious and will be judged more severely. (Apologetics 26, James 3:1)
Sola Scriptura does not require the exclusion of all extrabiblical data, even from theology. It simply requires that in theology and in all other disciplines, the highest authority, the supreme standard, must be Scripture and Scripture alone. (Apologetics, 18)
A theology worth its salt must always be prepared to show specifically where in Scripture its ideas come from. And showing that always boils down in the final analysis to citations of particular texts. SSW3 35
Scripture often condemns a “contentious” spirit (Prov 13:10; 18:6; 26:21; Hab 1:3; 1 Cor 1:11; 11:16) and commends “gentleness“ (2 Cor 10:1; Gal 5:23; 1 Thess 2:7; 2 Tim 2:24; Titus 3:2). The Reformed community should give much more attention to these biblical themes. SSW3 119
I have no doubt that Machen and his colleagues were right to reject liberal theology and to fight it. But it is arguable that once the Machenites found themselves in a “true Presbyterian church,” they were unable to moderate their martial impulses. SSL3 118
Scripture condemns any appeal to tradition that places that tradition on the same level of authority as itself (Isa. 29:13; Matt. 15:8-9; Mark 7:6-7; Col. 2:22). SSW3 42

This is the gospel, the central message of Scripture, that God came in Christ to reconcile us to himself by grace—by God’s unmerited favor to those who deserve wrath. DG 70
In a truly free society, people in every field would be free to express their views whether called religious or not, and the marketplace of ideas would be free to sort them out. HWPT 8
Morality is meaningless unless it has a personal source. So when moral principles touch the conscience, it is a personal transaction. Conscience is important because it is the voice of God. NCG 81
The oneness of God is the number of his lordship. It tells us how to live. Because God is One, we may not have a divided loyalty. We may not share our worship with other gods in addition to him, nor may we give our highest love to any being other than him. NCG 35
