If you used science, you would have said "Crack, boom", or "Crack, muzzle blast". But since you said, "Crack/thump" you must have been either too tired to post in a technically correct way, or you just don't understand. Since you don't know the external ballistic data of the exact round used, especially the flight time and exact drag coefficient, 143 is a speculation. The 30-06 can fire bullets of 110 grains up to 220 grains or larger (300 grains with tungsten tech) and the variance in weight drives a dramatic variance in velocity based on standard pressures around 58,000 psi, (900 fps, up to 3600 fps) are possible. If you have technical question on external ballistics, you can always drop me a line, and I will help you understand. "Thump" sounds a lot more like "bullet impact" than muzzle blast or overpressure. Clarity is king when it comes to science.
@JG_CSTT If you have security, that has no fundamentals, like perimeter watch, overwatch, individual comms, drone observation to watch roof top activity.....ad nauseam, you likely should NOT be in the security business, period.
@JG_CSTT Actually, I think you both jumped the gun on this issue. Kirk did have a SAPI panel on the front side. Not sure yet if it was a level 3A soft panel to defeat handgun rounds, or a hard plate to defeat rifle rounds. No matter, the failure was in security 100%.
