Inside the Pitman Family Farms poultry processing plant, shown here in 2015, hundreds of mostly Latino immigrants endure dangerous conditions, working long hours to slaughter, clean, cut, grind and package organic and free range chicken and turkeys, sold under brands considered ultra high-end and healthy alternatives to regular mainstream birds. 📷: John Walker
There have been three Pitman worker deaths at the company’s California-based operations, which includes the Sanger plant, a network of ranches, and an industrial feed mill, over the past decade. 📷: Eric Paul Zamora
Thank you so much for covering. Pitman Family Farms has also received more than $20 million in bailouts at the expense of US taxpayers. They failed to put plans in place to end the lives of their infected birds in less cruel ways and they resorted to sealing up barns, pumping in heat and waiting for the birds to die. Worse yet, they hope to expand in Lemoore, CA.
