The significance of these same water resources also underpins the economic successes of most other sectors throughout the Scottish economy. Climate change threatens these successes, but good management of these ecosystems and a relative abundance provides some advantages!

In the UK, much of our drainage infrastructure were designed based on IDF curves that didn’t anticipate #ClimateChange change, so the extreme ends of these curves have become almost “normal” and regularly exceeded. A key reason urban areas need to increase sustainable drainage.

Not only are we observing such high releases of methane, but the rate of melting permafrost is having substantial impacts on infrastructure such as roads, runways and telecommunication networks. Something we know our colleagues in the Sentinel North programme are investigating.
