ICCL statement, 24th November.
🧵6 months since we highlighted this first time, our new analysis below👇shows that a staggering 13 pieces of legislation will be rushed through before Christmas. 6 of those will have normal parliamentary process truncated through the merging of stages..
The number of bills passed by the Oireachtas increases significantly right before the summer & Christmas recesses. Progressing at breakneck speed means that oversight suffers & unexamined legislation is allowed pass without proper scrutiny. It's getting worse year on year.
Very disappointed to see substantive amendments to the Mother and Baby Redress Bill rejected. Minister @rodericogorman also failed to explain the arbitrary 6-month rule which leads to more exclusion and discrimination. We will continue to monitor closely.
