Every single person who calls students of today "digital natives" needs to watch a ten year old Google a website to get to the site. Like they type "flipfrid.com" into Google and then ask if the first result is correct.

Student couldn’t figure out why the computer homework system wouldn’t accept her answer of In(8). If I hadn’t been teaching math for 18 years it wouldn’t have occurred to me that maybe she spelled “el en” as “I en.”

It’s 16 less than 25*16, which is (5*4)^2, so it’s 400 - 16 which is 384. I don’t know why I didn’t think about quarters. I usually do.

Great advice. “My advice to any student who finds themselves feeling out of place in a course is to talk to someone who has the means to help you. Math professors aren’t always the most emotionally intelligent humans, but they do have access to resources.”
