@HaroldPelham7 @Northfieldcycl1 For an example of misuse, @Northfieldcycl1 claims to be in Position 1 but looks like he's in the outside third (Position 3) of the lane or even in the centre of the road. Could be a quirk of the camera but doubtful as he looks to be far out from the kerb. The junction is clear.

@HaroldPelham7 @Northfieldcycl1 Honest answer. It's ill-advised to use Position 1, 2 or 3 as a method of training, for the very reason it confuses, as your question suggests. It can be or is used however for 'in-house' courses when understanding of the terminology is already established. It's widely misused.

@Northfieldcycl1 General rules, techniques and advice for all drivers and riders'..The rules in The Highway Code do not give you the right of way in any circumstance, but they advise you when you should give way to others. Always give way if it can help to avoid an incident. Moral: it takes two.

@theJeremyVine @exposurelights Jeremy, you seem to be missing the point that you need to be more visible to following traffic and by other road users generally. You're in a one way cycle lane with a forward facing light.

@AndyCoxDCS @anthonycdavies To be certain about the road safety issues here: there were two errors, one by the driver which he politely acknowledged. The other by Vine - failing to give way to avoid an incident. Further, Vine portrays himself as a victim on Twitter and wasn't.

@AndyCoxDCS The whole licence acquisition leans heavily on the side of entitlement rather than standards Andy. No doubt you're aware of this. It's up to legislators to make the changes but there is much that DVSA could have done/could do to improve this. Shocking outcome here for the family.

@BBCNews We understand the fury. Our students have to pass the eyesight test before we take them on the roads, ages 16 - 60's. It's not unusual for people to have 'impaired' vision. As a biker, this is exceptionally worrying. Better controls need to be in place.
