Q - If Eircode is not suitable for Post & causes problems for ambulances what is its purpose? A - Postal liberalisation dictated the need for a postcode in Ireland. An Post/CWU did not want it BUT agreed to 1 if they could make it random & of limited use to others #protectionism

@markfn2010 @IrishTimes @Postvox do not want #Eircode and never did want a postcode for fear of it levelling the playing field. An Post only accepted Eircode as a front to deliver €22.6 million in #IllegalStateAid so they could re-enter the parcel market they previously abandoned.

Yet an An Post Official told an Oireachtas Committee they would use in every part of their business - lies to get a random code with limitations for their competitors (couriers) over the line! #protectionism
@IrishPTNolan We've been involved since 2005 & blocked from postcode tender (confirmed by EC investigation). We've been shouting about this since 2011 - maybe now we will be listened to. Thanks for listening - much appreciated.
@IrishPTNolan Postcodes had potential to level the playing field for couriers. We forced the country into a precise postcode which was a nightmare for An Post - so they insisted it be random knowing they would not use it & their competitors the couriers could not sort with it #protecionism
