The graphical update of our Google Play Store video and images on 18 August, 2025, led to a 45.7 % increase in our Google Ads Android campaign performance (conversions per day; the campaign uses store assets in its ads)! So, creating professional store assets really pays off!

We've added a "packaged" branch to the Steam version of GnollHack. If you are experiencing the bug that causes the game to be stuck in the "Done loading" phase, this branch may fix the problem. You change the branch in GnollHack properties in the Steam client, in the Betas tab.

gnollhack.com has been updated with improved marketing texts.

GnollHack's descriptions in Google Play Store have been updated: play.google.com/store/apps/det… In this update, we tried to communicate the strengths of GnollHack more clearly to different player segments on mobile.

We have updated images in our wiki to the WebP format, which is about 5x smaller than PNGs that we used before. Additionally, the images are now hosted on the wiki itself, which makes it possible for browsers to cache them. With these changes, the wiki is even faster than before.

We have published our own Visual Studio Code extension for editing GnollHack Wiki. It's called Foam for Gollum, and it's a fork of the Foam extension that adds support for GitHub/Gollum-style wiki links: [[Alias|Page Name]]. You can find it here: marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName…

It's GnollHack's 6-year birthday today! The development of the game was started on 19 July, 2019, by downloading the source code of NetHack 3.6.2. We have made 9448 commits to the GnollHack repository ever since. (Image by Bing Image Creator.)

We have moved GnollHack Wiki here: wiki.gnollhack.com It can now be indexed by search engines and works faster than our old wiki in GitHub, which started to have many kinds of problems. It's also running on a newer version of Gollum.

Patch 2.43 is now out on Android! It should fix GPU related crashes on Android. This means that GPU acceleration can be safely turned on now! 😀

We found out that, on Android, GPU Acceleration may crash the game, so it's best turn it off! The "non-GPU accelerated mode" in GnollHack is actually also somewhat GPU accelerated. This is a problem with our new technology framework, .NET MAUI, which hopefully can be fixed. 🛠️
