@Rainmaker1973 I remember it as if it happened yesterday - how I used to surprise my friends with this app🥹

@historyinmemes I think he just liked it😂

@0xkumaa Thiel sold the advice and kept the lesson. Zuckerberg lived it, that's the whole difference

A stranger at Friendly's once paid for Ronald Read's breakfast. He looked like he couldn't afford it. He was worth almost $8 million. Not an inheritance. Not a lottery ticket. Not a tech stock. Read pumped gas and fixed cars in Brattleboro, Vermont for about 25 years. Then he worked part-time as a janitor at JCPenney for 17 more. He drove a used Toyota Yaris and held his jacket together with a safety pin. When he died in 2014 at 92, his stock certificates were sitting in a safe deposit box. Stacked together, they were five inches high. At least 95 companies. Procter & Gamble. Johnson & Johnson. JPMorgan. Wells Fargo. Boring companies that paid dividends. He reinvested them, year after year. He left $4.8 million to the local hospital and $1.2 million to the library. Both were the largest gifts those places had ever received. His friends and family had no idea. Here's the part most people skip. Read owned Lehman Brothers when it went bankrupt in 2008. It barely mattered. He never needed any single stock to be right. He just never let one mistake get big enough to end the game. He didn't beat the market with genius. He beat it with time, dividends, and never being forced to sell. The hospital's new wing now carries his name. Would you have bet on the janitor? bookmark and watch ↓

@roywoodjr I thinnk, New York parking is basically a lifetime commitment. You don't own a car there, you own a spot

Eduardo Saverin gets diluted from 34% of Facebook to 0.03% in The Social Network's most brutal scene. Real life wrote a different ending. He's now worth $43 billion. The mechanics of the scene are mostly accurate. Facebook reincorporated in Delaware, the new company issued 24 million fresh shares, and Eduardo's stake collapsed while everyone else's holdings were protected. The detail people miss is that Facebook's own law firm prepared the papers he signed. He never brought his own lawyer, and that conflict of interest became the heart of his lawsuit. Then came the part the movie couldn't show, because it hadn't happened yet. Saverin sued, and the sealed settlement reportedly restored a stake of around 5% plus his co-founder title. Then he did the thing almost nobody manages to do. He held. Through the 2012 IPO, through Cambridge Analytica, through every Meta crash, he just kept the shares. He even renounced his US citizenship right before the IPO and moved to Singapore, saving an estimated several hundred million in taxes on the way. Everyone else in the saga settled for less. The Winklevoss twins took $65 million. Sean Parker was out of the company within a year of the events on screen. Eduardo took the stock and waited, and Forbes now ranks him as the richest person in Singapore and the richest Brazilian alive. The most famous victim in startup history won by refusing to sell.

@aakashgupta A great movie has come out—I wonder if “Artificial” will be better?

@BigBull778 Money can't buy drive. Give someone everything and they'll never learn to build anything themselves

@Rainmaker1973 Creepy but kind of genius. It's basically a guard dog that never sleeps, except it flies and reports back to your phone

Warren Buffett: "All of these economists with 160 IQs who spend their life studying it, can you name me one super-wealthy economist who's ever made money out of securities?" "If you look at the whole history of them, they don't make a lot of money buying and selling stocks — but people who buy and sell stocks listen to them. I have a little trouble with that."

@Alokkumarzz Most people never realize that paying a little extra early saves way more than paying a lot extra later

@mmoklaaa Everyone saw an overpriced photo app. He saw a threat worth paying to delay

@MatthewDR The fact that he survived proves the safety of the Tesla

Jake Paul reveals how 20 influencers k*lled Vine by demanding $1 million each "The top 20 Viners told Vine, hey, you have to start paying us, otherwise we're going to stop posting on here because they weren't paying us. And we knew we were getting ripped off. We were bringing in all of the content, all of the views, all of the fans." "And we were like, hey, we need a million dollars. They went back to Twitter and they were like, hey, they want a million dollars. They came back and were like, yeah, we could pay you the million dollars." "We all stopped posting on the platform, transitioned to posting on Facebook, YouTube, and Snapchat. And within a couple of months, Vine died out.”

@dnapway They killed the platform they were trying to get paid by. Right demand, fatal leverage
