Special goodies in this edition include several newly discovered Shusaku games and – best of all, maybe – a new Castle Game, involving Shuwa, which was found in the collection of the late Yamazaki Masuo 8-dan. He found it in a book in the second-hand area of Kanda.

The Meijin (or Master) has long been the most prestigious title in Japan for the best players of the oriental game of go. Only one Meijin at a time was allowed. Two of the very best players were Honinbo Genjo and Yasui Chitoku. Neither was Meijin.

Spring 2018 GoGoD database is now available at gogodonline.co.uk This edition includes 96,800 games. More Go Seigen games added (about 900 and more to come next time), a new Huang Longshi game, and the continuing Shin Fuseki games now includes some from China in the 1930s.

The reference to a tanuki racoon, as a belly drummer, will be instantly familiar to go players, but it alludes also to other senryu about go-playing tanukis.
