“THE FORCE OF LAW MUST PREVAIL OVER THE LAW OF FORCE” #UN CHIEF SENDS A STRONG MESSAGE AMID RED SEA TENSIONS
António Guterres reaffirms international law as Ethiopia’s pursuit of maritime access raises concerns over regional sovereignty and stability.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has delivered a firm message on violations of international law, emphasizing that no country's ambitions can justify actions that contradict established legal principles.
Responding to a question about maritime disputes and Ethiopia's tensions with neighboring countries, Guterres made the UN's position clear: “Violations of international law are unacceptable.”
Addressing maritime issues, the Secretary-General pointed to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), stressing that actions incompatible with the convention must not be accepted or respected.
His statement reinforces a fundamental principle at the heart of international relations: countries must pursue their interests within the boundaries of international law, not through coercion, threats, or the use of force.
Eritrea's sovereignty is not negotiable
The remarks carry particular significance amid rising tensions surrounding Ethiopia's pursuit of Red Sea access and concerns about the potential threat to Eritrea's territorial integrity.
Access to the sea can be pursued through peaceful commercial arrangements and agreements with neighboring states. But geographical circumstances or economic ambitions do not grant any country the right to threaten another nation's sovereignty or coastline.
The Red Sea is a shared strategic waterway not territory that can be claimed through intimidation.
Eritrea's sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected, just as the sovereignty of every nation must be protected under international law. Any sustainable maritime arrangement must be grounded in peaceful negotiations, mutual consent, and respect for the rights of all parties.
International law must stand above military power
Guterres extended the principle beyond maritime disputes, reaffirming that violations of international law must not be tolerated wherever they occur.
His closing message captured the stakes in a powerful phrase:
“We must make sure that the force of the law prevails over the law of the force.”
For the Horn of Africa, where regional rivalries and security concerns threaten to undermine stability, this principle is essential. Military threats cannot replace diplomacy, and political ambitions cannot override international obligations.
The choice facing the region is straightforward: respect international law and pursue cooperation, or risk turning disputes into dangerous confrontations.
No nation is above the law. No ambition justifies aggression. And no country's sovereignty should become the price of another country's strategic ambitions.
The future of the Horn of Africa must be built on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and the rule of law not the law of the strongest.

No Threats, No Forced Access: Cairo Draws the Red Line on Eritrea’s Sovereignty
Egypt and the UN Chief stress de-escalation, mutual agreement, and commercial access amid rising tensions in the Horn of Africa.
In Cairo, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty outlined
Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are protected under international law.Ethiopia’s desire for sea access grants no legal right to acquire territory by force.Any threat or use of force must comply with the UN Charter. No strategic interest overrides international law
Under Abiy Ahmed, Ethiopia is becoming a vehicle for ethnic domination and regional expansion, threatening peace and sovereignty across the Horn of Africa.
President Isaias Afwerki departed to Moscow in the early morning hours today to participate in the Third Russia-Africa Summit that will be convened from 28-29th October this week.
Main themes of the Summit include cooperation in the economic, investment, trade, energy, food security, agricultural and security sectors.

Presidential delegation includes Foreign Minister Osman Saleh.
🛑 The Truth Laid Bare: Farah Maalim Exposes Addis Ababa’s Implosion & Regional Proxies 🇰🇪 🇪🇷 🇸🇴 🇸🇩
When an experienced regional statesman speaks without diplomatic double-talk, manufactured narratives crumble. Seasoned Kenyan politician and former National Assembly Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim has laid bare what observers across the Horn of Africa have documented for years: Ethiopia is suffering structural internal collapse, while the regime in Addis Ababa acts as a proxy for external interests [00:15, 00:41].
From Amhara to Tigray, and from Gambella to Moyale, central authority has broken down .
🔍 Key Geopolitical Realities
🔴 The "Mercenary" Proxy Agenda: Maalim outlines how Abiy Ahmed caters to external sponsors—acting as an instrument for Gulf- and Western-backed designs [00:10]. Addis Ababa has operated as a logistics corridor facilitating supplies to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) devastating Sudan, while generating friction in Somalia and South Sudan. 🇸🇩🇦🇪
🟡 The Disintegration of the Federal Center: The reach of the federal government has eroded across the country [03:08]. Beyond Addis Ababa and core enclaves, authority has receded across Amhara (Fano resistance), Tigray, Afar, and Benishangul-Gumuz [01:00, 01:05, 07:03]. As Maalim warns: Ethiopia risks fragmenting into multiple regional entities. [04:36] 📉
🟣 Manufactured External Diversions: Whenever internal control deteriorates, external flashpoints are manufactured [01:23, 09:24]. Aggressive maneuvers over "sea access" in Somaliland, border pressure on Somalia, and expansionist pushes around Moyale and Hudet serve to distract from collapsing governance at home [05:39, 09:24]. 🇸🇴🛑
🟢 The Eritrean Red Line: Contemplating a military adventure against Eritrea is a fatal miscalculation [06:13]. Eritrea stands as a disciplined, consolidated state built on decades of collective defense and hard-won resilience [06:22, 06:41]. As Maalim emphasizes: Direct confrontation against Eritrea would dismantle what remains of Ethiopia’s military organization. [06:16, 06:49] 🇪🇷🛡️
🔵 Strangled Supply Corridors: With vital northern roads contested and Red Sea littoral states enforcing sovereign deterrence, Addis Ababa's strategic transit options are tightening [08:24, 09:29]. ⚓
💡 The Strategic Conclusion
"A leader who acts as an external proxy while igniting conflicts across his own provinces cannot avoid the implosion of the center." [00:41, 01:58]
The Horn of Africa is rejecting manufactured pretexts [01:23, 04:08]. Genuine regional security relies on non-interference, sovereign borders, and recognizing that internal failure cannot be cured by encroaching on neighboring coastlines [04:30, 09:00]. 🕊️⚡

@tesfanews When the guardians of the law abandon their duty, lawlessness takes the throne.
Abiy is too busy creating distractions to confront the reality of his own failures.

When a school bus driver suffered a medical emergency in St. Paul, Minnesota, an Eritrean hero 𝗘𝗯𝗿𝗼 𝗔𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗱 didn't hesitate. He jumped onto the moving bus and managed to bring it to a safe stop, saving 19 children from potential disaster.
No bus-driving experience, just courage, quick thinking, and a heart full of humanity. Thankfully, all the children were safe.

EthiopiaWatch🇪🇹: Ethiopia’s inflation continues to PUNISH Ethiopians.
Today, I measure Ethiopia's inflation at a PUNISHING 75.6%/yr. That's the 5TH HIGHEST in the world.
PM. Abiy Ahmed Ali = ARROGANT, INCOMPETENT & CORRUPT.
@GirmaTelk Abiy is creating tensions with neighbouring countries to distract the international community from the mounting chaos and crises unfolding inside Ethiopia.
If it’s not #Amhara, it’s #Tigray. If not Tigray, it’s #Benishangul-#Gumuz. Then #Wollega in #Oromia, #Afar, or the Somali Region. When you think the violence might finally subside, tensions flare along the #Sudanese, #Eritrean, or #Kenyan borders, while diplomatic disputes with #Somalia add to the turmoil. One crisis after another, with no end in sight. You sit back in disbelief and wonder: how can a government be so inept at governing, so incapable of maintaining peace within its own borders, yet constantly embroiled in tensions with its neighbors? The tragedy is that millions of ordinary Ethiopians continue to bear the consequences. A nation desperately yearning for peace remains trapped in an endless cycle of conflict, suffering, and failed leadership. Truly heartbreaking. @StateDept@EUtoAU@_AfricanUnion@UN#Ethiopia
