I’ve been absent for a few weeks. Unfortunately I had to make the decision to have Kai put to sleep and as I’m in the middle of a basic course with Maverick I was trying to distract myself from this and give the focus to the course. Thankfully Maverick has taken to Lucy well

Unfortunately we have some very sad news to bring you about PD Kai. After an illness he passed away on Friday 18th October, age 7, with Chris, his handler, by his side. He will be missed by all who knew & worked with him. Thank you for your service PD Kai, sleep well 🐾

TPD Maverick is a 17 month old Dutch Herder and was a gift dog to West Yorkshire Police. He’s very headstrong in his training but on the flip side is very attentive and craves attention. He’s a big strong unit and hits like a bulldozer

Lucy is a 6 1/2 year old Springer Spaniel. She is trained in digital detection and came to West Yorkshire from another force approximately 4 years ago. She is very protective with Kai and other dogs but loves belly rubs and treats

Kai is a 7 1/2 year old German Shepherd. I’ve handled him since the age of 9 months. For the past 10 months we’ve had health issues to contend with and constantly back and forth to the vets. He’s currently paws up for the next few months whilst Maverick is on his basic
