GRUMPY GI GEAR proudly calls San Antonio, Texas, home. When we’re sweating through another 100° summer day, it’s easy to forget how fortunate we are to live just a few miles from some of America’s most storied history. Just inside the entrance to San Fernando Cathedral stands a marble tomb said to hold the remains of Alamo defenders, including David Crockett, James Bowie, and William Barret Travis. Their stand at the Alamo in 1836 made them enduring symbols of courage, sacrifice, and Texas independence. Sometimes, we need to slow down and appreciate the history in our own backyard. Remember the Alamo!

There’s a story behind STAND READY Apparel: GRUMPY G.I. GEAR originally secured a NASCAR sponsorship, but the agreement was ultimately voided after objections were raised over some of our deliberately provocative and politically incorrect designs—including our “Hang Your Local Pedo” and “Waterboarding Instructor” T-shirts. To our knowledge, GRUMPY G.I. GEAR is the only veteran-owned apparel brand to have had a NASCAR sponsorship canceled over its product designs. Rather than change GRUMPY to satisfy corporate sensitivities, we created our sister company, STAND READY Apparel. NASCAR’s decision was frustrating and disappointing, but we refused to let it be the end of the story. Instead, we used the setback to grow, adapt and create STAND READY Apparel. The new brand ultimately partnered with Josh Bilicki and appeared as the primary sponsor of his No. 07 Chevrolet at Texas Motor Speedway in 2026.
