Learn how to maximise support for all students. Use all resources available in your organisation. Develop good working relationships with function leaders and understand the role that each support can play. Signpost students to resources and specialists at every opportunity.

Learn how to never miss a deadline! Deadlines don’t matter! It’s the tasks that precede them that count. Tasks don’t flow down a pipe they are sucked towards the deadline through a vortex. Tackle as many as you can as early as possible. Watch people who always do stuff on time.

Learn how I have taught 5000 students over 30 years, with almost 100% success. Asked recently by a colleague “Could you isolate the key things that have led to such outcomes” Thinking I would have a list of 20 it turns out that there are 2 significant factors.

I left at 57. When I think about it for too long, I feel disappointed I didn't make it to 60. But 18 months of C19 did for me. After 18 years of headship (36 GCSE & A Level results days & set 18 budgets during terrible funding cuts) I was done. I wdn't have made 60 had I stayed.
