The photos here show the Terracotta warriors that were unearthed on March 29, 1974.
While digging a well near Xi’an, China, farmers discovered a filled-in pit containing 6,000 life-size terracotta soldiers. The site was soon identified as the burial place of Emperor Qin. In addition to the large pit containing the soldiers, three more pits were discovered.
The army of life-size soldiers, archers, horses, and chariots was stationed in military formation to protect the emperor in the afterlife. The restoration of the figures revealed that the workers used molds and assembly lines to complete each one.
