@ItsYonder @DThompsonDev Another good thing to remember is that recursive solutions must always have two things: 👉 a base case - so you have an initial answer to build from 👉 a recursive call - this ensures you continue breaking down the problem into a smaller problem moving you towards the base case

@ItsYonder @DThompsonDev Once the second person in line knows their position, they can pass this info on to the person behind them so they can calculate their position as well. This process continues and eventually, the person you tapped will tell you their position allowing you to know your position 🙂

@ItsYonder @DThompsonDev Since they know they're 1st, they can tell the person who asked them, "I'm first in line". Then, this lets the second person in line calculate their position in line (they now know they're one behind the first person in line i.e. second in line)

@ItsYonder @DThompsonDev Since it's a long line, they don't know their place either, so they ask the person in front of them. This process continues on a bit until the first person in line finally gets tapped (this is the "base case" i.e. the case you know the answer to) and they know they're 1st in line

@ItsYonder @DThompsonDev I always think that the easiest way to think about recursion is standing in a long line where you can't see the start of the line. You ask yourself "I wonder what place I am in line?" You're not sure so you tap the person in front of you and ask if they know their place in line
