Let me really shake things up.I was a theater major before I switched to History...and I use THOSE skills all the time as well. (Public speaking, for example, is a skill that helps in so many aspects of so many careers).Education isn't as straightforward as simply "job training".
@HardcoreHistory Great point… To bolster a bit: I have an engineering degree and a business degree. I would venture to say I used less than 30% of what I learned.
@HardcoreHistory People often see school as hoops to jump through but it is just an attempt at hacking people to learn material and build neural networks that hopefully will expand over their entire life. There are specific technical aspects but its mostly how to think. Ph is Philosophy in PhD.
How to think, vs what to think? I’m not so sure. Right now I think we’re in the what to think paradigm. Effective employment - either as a business owner or employee relies far more on how to think. Something which is largely not taught at institutions which rely on peer review to gatekeeper new datasets or even new looks at old ideas.
@HardcoreHistory So that's where the quote voice came from! 🤣🤣
@HardcoreHistory I’m okay with any degree but they all shouldn’t be federally subsidized
@HardcoreHistory I received my history degree from UW-Madison and put it to work as a museum curator for nearly 30 years.
@HardcoreHistory Man you gotta put your show on YouTube if your actually in costume when you’re recording.
@HardcoreHistory History for me. Then went into a field where I'll never use it.... 😆
@HardcoreHistory For a select few… you are correct.
@HardcoreHistory We can't all be the grand daddy of history podcasts.
