INEC Nigeria has allocated a budget of N305 billion Naira for the upcoming 2023 general elections. However, it appears that they are facing challenges in creating a reliable application and infrastructure for 200 million users in order to promote transparency. This solution is likely one of the easiest things to build, and I will break it down. I have built a similar solution for a client in the past, although it was not for an electoral voting use case. INEC could contract the system to brilliant minds in Nigeria. Serverless architecture will solve the problem. Immediately after each voter fingerprints and scans the ballot paper, an endpoint can upload the scan to an S3 bucket (each geopolitical zone can have a bucket, and each polling unit can have a prefix in the bucket). Set a simple rule on the bucket to trigger upon a put action that writes scan results into SQS to handle multiple traffic orders. SQS can immediately trigger a lambda function written in Python. A simple Python logic can call the AWS Textract service to read the PDF or image scanned to identify which party a candidate chose. The result can be structured as a JSON object with the fields: { "LP": "detected", "PDP": null, "ANPP": null, "APC": null, "Polling UNIT": "21A" } Write each result to DynamoDB and continue appending per scan. There is nothing to worry about regarding limits or concurrency. This solution is very scalable with SQS, as it is designed to handle large volumes of messages and can scale automatically to accommodate increases in user traffic. The CData Power BI Connector for Amazon DynamoDB seamlessly integrates with the tools and wizards in Power BI. Get some visualization experts to summarize results with Power BI. Embed the dashboard into a simple front-end application and host it in S3 via CloudFront. Create enough time and create different uses for testing. Detecting invalid scans.
