The 2009 H1N1 pandemic traced back to a human virus that got into pigs decades ago & evolved more slowly in them, eventually differing enough from human H1s to be able to trigger a pandemic. Would be good to know how fast #H5N1 #birdflu is evolving in cows.
@HelenBranswell Could there be a more bullish case for permanently switching to Beyond Meat? Save the environment and avoid eating potentially contaminated meat. The milk has been tracked with particles of H5N1 —-so why would the beef not be? $BYND

@HelenBranswell Agreed. Also hope we keep testing wastewater around the affected areas and typing the variants. FluA does not normally circulate in late April, as should be typing samples. Louisville, Kentucky Modesto, California Salina, Kansas Amarillo, Texas Dallas, Texas (Northeast suburbs)
@HelenBranswell @lalasoo given that covid evolves like 8 times faster in deer, I don't hold out a lot of hope for other virus/hoofed animal tag teams
