My trek experience was….well, insane. -we were allowed 3 ‘modern’ conveniences. One of mine was my contact lenses. -the 1st day, all we ate was a small ration of dried fruit & nuts -breakfast each day was ‘ash cakes’, a dough of flour/water cooked in the ashes of the fire 1/3

Finished Coppins’ biography of Romney. Typical “great man” biography. No glimpses into his family or wider society. As a result, it’s painful and tedious to read and does nothing for Romney’s image. If you found him out of touch before, he’ll seem just as out of touch after.
I talked to my graduate advisor at WHA about why people don't finish their 2nd books. Later, we talked about the appointments I've attended trying to figure out one of my children's neurodiversity. She responded, "That's why women don't finish 2nd books." Feeling that today.
Reading Coppin’s bio of Romney. I‘m not a fan of either, so this will be fun. They both exude “I’m a very nice, elite man who has never fully examined his privilege” energy. It makes Coppins‘ framing of the bio — Romney is so brave for examining his life!! — scream worthy.

Y’all, we just need places that children can BE. I get why it can’t be the library. But where the f*ck should it be then? Where can I take my kids when it’s cold outside and they are begging to leave the house? We don’t have money for a trampoline park every week. Tell me. WHERE.
@HendrixKomoto It was very traumatizing. Another group right by me had their chicken get loose and run around with half its neck severed. But I was SO STARVING I didn’t care at the time.
@HendrixKomoto I have never heard of it outside trek. But I also grow up in a large metro area.
@imintherockies At least it was in the 90s. The ones my nieces and nephews have done seem pretty cushy.
@ApostateAbish I had forgotten about ash cakes! I went on pioneer trek in 1989 and it was def a starvation exercise. Problematic in so many ways--using physical hardship to manipulate children into having spiritual experiences is just wrong.
@ApostateAbish Nothing like a little cult cosplay. A girl on my trek almost died because her insulin had to be put in the “medi-cart” a mile ahead of her. I can never deny my trek miracle though. I went to bed with 4,000 blisters on my hands & woke up completely healed. God? Ghosts?Magic?✨🌚🌝

@ApostateAbish I last did a Youth Conference in ‘88, then I went to BYU for two degrees until ‘95. I’m SO glad I never knew wtf Trek was, and that I never went through the temple. I knew enough about the temple and other things to get out. It was a very long transition, but somehow I did it.

@Jennife63221170 Even my TBM mom thinks my trek experience was insane and gets upset about it still. They don’t do them like this anymore (pretty sure).
