That's a good point. We almost never question why things are done. We follow best practices that were designed from first principles that may no longer be relevant. The thread also has some good counter arguments on why not to do it.

@karpathy is the most interesting read on twitter. He's thoughts and the discussions that come up in the comments in response are pure intellectual gold. There's so much to learn. Too bad he's not actively working on new models anymore.

I don't see any reason for @huggingface to exist. They have no inference of their own. All they do is store open source models. Any cloud provider can kill them by creating a similar open source library for downloading and for hosted inference.

Interesting read. This means that there might be an easy way to teach the models by using examples in the prompts that will somehow will be added to the context layer in a "fixed" way so that you won't have to fine tune or provide the examples again. Cool.

Many people don't know this, but this is the main reason that the quality of the code edits in Cursor does not match the raw models from the providers themselves. They *might* be using the models for edits only in max mode.

Since the change (literally 4 days ago), they charged me $18 without me ever consenting to per usage pricing (I turned it off after the model pricing changed and I discovered last week that I was overcharged). They just changed the setting back to on without asking. @cursor_ai
