Today, the NHL Alumni family mourns the loss of Ron Duguay, a cherished member of our hockey family whose legacy reaches far beyond the game he loved so dearly. Ron lived life with an extraordinary passion, an infectious smile, and a heart that was truly larger than life. Above all else, his deepest and most sincere love was for his family. They were his greatest pride, his greatest joy, and always closest to his heart. His dedication and passion for the game of hockey were unwavering. Hockey was more than a sport to Ron; it was a part of who he was, a lifelong love that he carried with pride and shared so generously with others. But perhaps what made Ron most special was his humanity. His genuine compassion, kindness, and willingness to help others always extended far beyond himself. He cared deeply, gave generously of his heart, and had a remarkable way of making everyone around him feel valued and appreciated. Ron greeted each day with the biggest smile, an incredible zest for life, and a positive outlook that shone through everything he saw, everything he did, and every life he touched. He will be remembered not only for the player he was, but for the extraordinary person he was. His warmth, his laughter, his kindness, and his beautiful spirit will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends, teammates, and the entire NHL Alumni community. When my grandparents came here from Italy, nobody was kissing their asses trying to make them comfortable. There was no “press 2 for Italian.” No expectation that the cashier, bank teller, or guy at the DMV spoke Italian. And they sure as fck didn’t demand it. They learned English, worked their asses off, raised their families, and became proud Americans. They never forgot their roots, but they understood something we’ve apparently forgotten. They came to America. America didn’t come to them. Now expecting people to learn English is somehow controversial? Give me a friggin break. Be proud of your heritage. Speak whatever language you want at home. But don’t expect an entire country to adapt to you. My grandparents came here to become Americans, not to turn America into Italy. And I refuse to apologize for believing that still matters.

Sammy Davis fired a burning howitzer by himself, got blown off his feet by the recoil three times, and then crossed a river on an air mattress to rescue three wounded men, even though his back was broken and he could not swim. And here is the wild part most people do not realize. You have probably already seen his Medal of Honor ceremony, because Hollywood used it in Forrest Gump. Davis was a cannoneer, an artilleryman, born in Ohio in 1946 and raised in a family stuffed with soldiers going back to the Spanish-American War. In November 1967 he was a private first class at a remote firebase called Cudgel, out in the Mekong Delta west of Cai Lay. At two in the morning on November 18, a reinforced Viet Cong battalion came swarming out of the dark, driving right up to within twenty five meters of the guns, with only a river between them and the Americans. Davis grabbed a machine gun to cover his crew. Then an enemy recoilless rifle round scored a direct hit on his howitzer, blew the whole crew off the gun, and threw Davis into a foxhole. He got up and went back to the burning gun alone. Ignoring everyone yelling at him to take cover, he rammed in a shell, aimed, and fired it point blank at the attackers. The recoil knocked him flat. He got up and did it again. A mortar round went off twenty meters away and wounded him. He got up and did it again. In all, he loaded and fired that howitzer by himself again and again, right into the enemy assault. Then he heard wounded Americans calling from across the river. Davis could not swim, and his back was broken, so he grabbed an air mattress and paddled across anyway. On the far bank he stood up and fired into the brush to keep the enemy off, then dragged the three wounded men back across the water one at a time. Only then, bleeding from multiple wounds, did he join another gun crew and keep fighting until the enemy finally broke and fled. President Johnson gave him the Medal of Honor, and afterward Davis pulled out his harmonica and played Oh Shenandoah for the men who had not made it home. Decades later, when the makers of Forrest Gump needed footage of a young soldier receiving the Medal of Honor, they used the real film of Sammy Davis's ceremony and simply placed Tom Hanks's face over his. So when you watch Forrest get his medal, the body standing there is a real hero, Sammy Davis.

Elissa Slotkin has once again proven she has no morals. She’s now calling for political prosecutions so young people will be too scared to work for a Republican administration. She previously committed sedition by telling military personnel to disobey orders from Trump. Having faced no legal consequences, she’s been emboldened to promote further treachery. On Friday at the University of Chicago, Slotkin said she wants planned cases against Trump administration figures to create a deterrence effect. She wants young people coming out of school to think working for a Trump administration “might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want, and so let me avoid participating in that.” She called it the deterrence message she wants. This is textbook lawfare, just like what she did with the military was textbook sedition. The goal isn’t simply punishing proven crimes. It’s making association with the wrong side so costly that fewer people will even try. Slotkin has previously talked about an “Iron Broom” cleanup of Trump officials and named specific people she wants held accountable. Now she’s explaining that part of the point is to scare the next generation away from getting involved. This is egomaniacal tyrant speak. It’s dangerous because it seeks to silence discussion and open thought. What Slotkin promotes is never accountability. It’s chaos and abuse. She undermines the chain of command and then weaponizes the justice system to shrink the other side. And she does so proudly. Slotkin doesn’t have all the answers. So she acts to silence others so that she’s never questioned. That close-mindedness is a true sign of mental weakness and it’s un-American. A democracy doesn’t work if one side treats prosecutions as a tool to thin out the other side’s talent pool. Slotkin is describing a strategy that treats political participation itself as something that should carry personal legal risk if you pick the wrong team. That’s an attack on free political involvement, not a defense of the rule of law. If a Republican senator said they wanted prosecutions to scare young Democrats out of government, the reaction would be immediate and fierce. There’d be nationwide calls for resignation. But Slotkin said it and almost nobody will care. It’s become the norm for Democrat politicians to encourage lawfare as a substitute for positive policy for America. Accountability is important. What Slotkin is proposing is a form of intimidation that scares young people into silence. She got away with sedition so she keeps making her radical statements. This is the price of Republicans never making her face real accountability.
