Why are planners obsessed with making housing more expensive for the sake of making more expensive? Like setting side yard height limits less than two stories and forcing dormers off exterior walls—it is more expensive, egress doesn’t work and you lose function.
@HutchinsMatt "Gentle density". "Compatibility" "Neighborhood character"
@HutchinsMatt The offset wall is particularly egregious
@HutchinsMatt They all want to b the 'success' of NYC sky front setbacks of yesteryear. (Oh and its a neighbors 'view corridor')
@HutchinsMatt Cities need to stop setting themselves back.
@HutchinsMatt Why do planners want to act as architect? I ask this question regularly as my designs, approved by my client & well within standard guidelines, are often picked apart by city "design wannabes." If you want to design buildings, go get yourself a license & have at it.
@HutchinsMatt When I tell people an old craftsman with a hipped roof is worse to live in than a modern box they usually look at me cross eyed. But that top story is always going to be uncomfortable and for no good reason.
