‘Assisted dying’ cannot be made safe and must therefore be rejected by MSPs, campaigners have said, as a bill is set to be published at the Scottish Parliament. The bill, from Lib Dem MSP Liam McArthur, would enable doctors to prescribe terminally ill patients with lethal drugs.
As an "assisted dying" bill is lodged at Holyrood, our ally @AshleyAFrawley sets out her stance. She used to support a change in the law but evidence of abuses and expansion, social injustice, and personal experience cause her to change her mind.
Never underestimate where your words might end up. This story has me weeping quietly on a train. The mum's love. Her daughter's appreciation. The book I was almost too scared to write. Be brave and share your wisdom. Somebody, somewhere, needs it.
My mum, weeks from dying, read me passages from @drkathrynmannix book, With the end in mind. Once over my shock, I realised she was preparing me, mothering me, protecting me. The book became my talisman and yes, death is a social event, a community event, and not medical. Ta Mum.
