I haven’t been very active on here lately, but I’ve been spending time looking into e/acc, and I wanted to explain why it makes sense to me. e/acc stands for effective accelerationism. It’s a decentralised movement around accelerating technological progress, particularly in AI, energy and computing, and expanding what civilisation is capable of. The part that resonates with me is the belief that a better future is something we can actively build. More abundant energy gives us more capacity to produce, compute and experiment. Better AI can help more people research, invent and solve problems. Those advances can help us develop the next generation of tools and energy systems. That possibility of progress feeding further progress is what interests me, especially when more people can access the tools and participate. You don’t need to agree with every argument under the e/acc label to see value in that direction. For me, it means taking problems seriously while believing we can develop the capacity to solve them. Optimism gives us a reason to act; the work has to follow. The decentralised part matters too. Developers, researchers, designers, marketers, organisers and people with capital can all contribute from their side. We don’t need someone at the top telling everyone what to build. Crypto is an interesting experiment within that. It can spread the ideas, connect people and create funding around a shared mission. Someone discovers the coin, encounters the philosophy, meets other people and ends up contributing to something they would never otherwise have found. Beff has said proceeds and donations will support Kardashev Research. The creator-fee mechanism offers a funding route, and I want to see that translate into tangible work, with transparency around where the money goes. That doesn’t mean he owes us promotion or leadership of the coin. Our contribution can extend much further. Observatory-K is an early example: people from the community building a dashboard around humanity’s energy use and progress on the Kardashev scale. Something others can explore, question and improve together. You shouldn’t need to own a token to participate. The community becomes more interesting when people want to be here because of what we’re doing and find something they want to help build. And honestly, it’s funny how confident everyone sounds about a long-term thesis near the highs, then how quickly the mood changes when the price falls. Suddenly, we’re sounding like the doomers we argue against. People have lost money. Frustration and questions are valid. But becoming paralysed and stagnant gets us nowhere. There are still people here holding through losses, contributing and trying to make something of this. I think that effort deserves more attention. If funding research is part of the thesis, let’s follow it through to actual work. If community is part of it, let’s give people something worth participating in. I want the coin to succeed. My interest in these ideas also goes beyond its performance. A meaningful mission doesn’t guarantee a successful token; my conviction grows with what we deliver and the people we bring together. Over the coming months, I want to explore this, contribute where I can and share what I learn. I want us to put the same energy into building through the difficult periods that we put into talking about the possibilities at the highs. That’s where the acceleration mindset has to mean something. Keep connecting. Keep building. Keep accelerating. The e/acc way. @Eaccmovement
