Empirical research has always had a sweet spot for one particular means of implicit personality assessment, a research version of the TAT called the Picture Story Exercise (PSE). I went to one of those doctoral programs and did my postdoctoral research in automated computational linguistic quantitative content coding of narrative text for personality - related variables.

Since then the administration of the TAT was standard in doctoral level clinical psychology training until a bunch of haters launched a PR campaign against everything psychoanalysis in academic psychology, leading to the marginalization of both the TAT and Rorschach. Some doctoral programs kept teaching it and still do.

One issue with self report measurement is the lying. Psychodynamic psychology has long been concerned with measuring unconscious personality traits, dating back to Henry Murray who invented the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) and wrote the Analysis of Hitler’s Personality for the OSS during World War II.

Severely ill psychiatric patients have much more "rights" in a well run hospital than in prison/being homeless/or in Trump's proposed concentration camps. 60 years ago, involuntary psych hospital was a terrible abuse/Now neglect is the abuse because 90% of beds have been closed.

Just fyi - ImplicitIFY is a great resource for teaching that because it has every scale on the ipip w norms takable digitally with psychometric scoring so it’s perfect for an overview of psychometric testing - construction, validity and reliable, as well as scoring and interpretation. There is also a learn hub where we offer teaching slides about the concepts in the platform integrated with examples. It’s also pretty well designed for teaching about the different types of tests - single, multi construct, explicit, projective, response latency. I’ll tell you what. Me being a postdoc and intern at nypsi ca 2014-2016 when the bookstore was going out of business on a slow roll of years, slowly selling its shelves and enriching with books from the library itself was fortuitous af in this context. There is plethora of veritable content coding rules for automated nlp in the esoteric space of psychoanalytic linguistics and computer scientists (probably math and computer experts who were in analysis themselves or had loved one helped by it, writing hundreds of pages of machine readable decision trees to operationalize this help. Can’t have ai having that…out of respect for humans.

@jimstanton If there are rare books about computer science that hold the keys to inverting the ai trend ie decreasing its use in society and ai ingests that knowledge, then say bye bye to that knowledge without the book itself. I’m sure other examples of valuable knowledge can be conceived.
