📢Happy to announce that #ReefBudget has a little sister. Happy Birthday #SedBudget 🥳🎈 (this deserves a cake) The survey-based SedBudget method estimates the amount, composition and grain sizes of sediment produced on a coral reef 🪸 (1/6) Publication: tinyurl.com/bdcpvpaj
We provide a protocol and tables to calculate the amount, constituents and grain sizes of this sediment as a function of #abundance and #productivity of relevant reef organisms. We did lots of productivity #datacompilation so you can concentrate on the fun #fieldwork 😀 (3/6)
First application in the #Chagos Archipelago showed interesting site-level differences and high consistency with the constituents we found in actual sediment samples. Looks like it's working... 🥳 (4/6)
This is the 1st version of #SedBudget and we outline which additional data can improve estimate accuracies. But we are stoked to see this out as it helps to calculate e.g. sediment supply to islands and shorelines, increasingly important under future sea-level rise (5/6)
