Pardon my French, but Fcking Hell. @Nature is putting forth & normalising the idea that couples benefit working on a...single salary. "work together on one project for one salary, which they find gets the work done in the most effective way" Outrageous nature.com/articles/d4158…
I am so angry with this system and the way we undervalue work in academia. I cannot even put this into words.
@IslandGenomics @Nature Hi @IslandGenomics just a point of clarification. Both my partner @jackie_saturno and I, both featured in the article, have always ensured we are paid separately and we hav never shared a single salary. The statement you made isn't backed up by our story in the article.
@IslandGenomics @Nature I think it is.... telling that Nature chooses to highlight the 2-4-1 approach. Like... a lot of us know academics with partners who work together on projects: the gimmick here is definitely the "pay them less" angle (vs. even a 1.5 FT salary, 2x25 hour contract situation too!)
@IslandGenomics @Nature Having solved that problem, next week we'll tackle the challenges in obtaining research funding. We'll speak with Charles, who runs a thriving lab using his vast inherited wealth.
