NEWSFLASH: Dominion CTO Eric Coomer’s libel case against me for saying Dominion’s equipment rigs elections was just thrown out by the judge on summary judgment. Trial was supposed to start next Wednesday, but the judge read our evidence and realized I was correct. No libel.

The Jewish Bride captured by Muhammad Safiyya bint Huyayy was the daughter of a Jewish tribal leader, respected, noble, and newly married. Her family had already been expelled once when Muhammad drove Banu Nadir from their land. They relocated to Khaybar, trying to rebuild their lives. But Khaybar was attacked as well. During the raid on Khaybar, her father was killed. Her husband was killed. Her brother was killed. Many of her tribe were killed. Safiyya, a young bride, was taken captive along with hundreds of other Jewish women. They were treated as spoils of war — divided among the victors to be kept, used for sex, or sold. One of Muhammad’s companions, Dihya al-Kalbi, chose Safiyya for himself. Then Muhammad was told that Dihya had taken an exceptionally beautiful captive. He summoned Dihya and exchanged her for other women (two according to some reports, seven according to others). She became his share of the war booty. On the journey back from Khaybar — about 180 kilometers away — the army made several stops. During one of those nights, Muhammad instructed that Safiyya be prepared for him for sex. She had just lost her father, husband, and brother. She was grieving and devastated. Nevertheless, that night he slept with her in his tent. Islamic sources themselves record that one of his companions stood guard outside the tent the entire night — afraid she might attempt revenge. Other narrations attributed to Safiyya state that Muhammad was the most hated person in her life because he had killed her father, husband, and brother. Later versions of the story attempt to soften it. We are told he apologized repeatedly until she became pleased. We are told she had a dream about him before the battle. We are told that freeing her and declaring her his wife erased the brutality of the circumstances. We are told she “chose” Islam. But none of these additions change the core facts: her family was killed, she was taken as war booty, transferred between men, and sexually raped within days of her capture. This episode is not a minor footnote. It forces uncomfortable questions about power, conquest, consent, and the moral character of Muhammad. No amount of later embellishment removes the brutality of what happened to Safiyya.

Hard to watch. Old Ukrainian men, dragged from their homes, workshops, farms, are given 3 days "training" and then sent to die. Meanwhile, Zelensky and his crime syndicate rake in the billions. All paid for by you.

Yezhov – The Butcher. His old boss once said he had never met a more ideal worker: "Give him a task and you don't need to check on him – he'll get it done. He has only one shortcoming: he doesn't know when to stop." Nikolai Yezhov was a small man, barely five feet tall, a former factory worker with little schooling who rose through the Party as a diligent, obedient bureaucrat. He was exactly the man the system needed. A small and vicious man – in power, he drank heavily and liked to go down to the prisons to watch interrogations – sometimes joining the beatings himself. When his wife had an affair with the novelist Mikhail Sholokhov, Yezhov had their hotel room bugged and listened to the recordings. He watched his own bedroom just as he watched over the whole country. His philosophy fit in one sentence: better that ten innocent people suffer than one spy escape. English law had said the opposite for centuries: better that ten guilty men go free than one innocent suffer. That one reversal is the whole difference between a civilization and a terror. In 1936, Stalin put him at the head of the NKVD. The old boss who had praised him was shot in the terror that followed. The West calls it the Great Purge. Russians remember it as the Yezhovshchina – "the Yezhov times." But it was not a frenzy. It was a plan. An order of July 1937 gave every region a quota: so many to be shot – the "first category" – and so many to be sent to the camps – the "second category." Local chiefs competed to fulfill the plan and asked Moscow to raise their limits. Moscow usually agreed. Torture was authorized from the top. Then came the national operations – Germans, Latvians, Finns, and above all Poles. Order 00485, signed by Yezhov, hunted an organization that did not exist. The verdicts came in albums, a few lines per person. In Moscow, two signatures sealed them – Yezhov's and the prosecutor Vyshinsky's – hundreds of death sentences at a sitting. The wives of the condemned went to the camps. Their children went to orphanages. Propaganda posters showed him crushing a many-headed snake in a spiked glove. His name means "hedgehog," and "hedgehog gloves" is the Russian idiom for an iron grip. In two years, around seven hundred thousand people were shot. Then the machine needed a culprit. In 1938, Beria arrived as his deputy, and by November Yezhov was out. In April 1939 he was arrested, tortured with the methods he had perfected, and made to confess to being a spy. At his secret trial, he asked that Stalin be told he would die with his name on his lips. He was shot in February 1940. Then he was erased – from the photographs, from the records, from the story. The terror kept his name, Yezhovshchina, so that it would not carry the Master's. His adopted daughter was sent to an orphanage, like the children of his victims. The machine is never satisfied. It always needs the next name on the list – and, when the time comes, the name of the man who made the lists. Next: Beria.

@segerfeldt Yes peace is simple when you don’t need reality. How about we stop arguing about who started it and just decide to stop killing people.

In the UkroReich, anyone speaking Russian (over 70% of the population in reality) can now be refused medical care according to their language chief. Zelensky himself exclusively speaks Russian with his family and off camera Nazis doing Nazis things.

Vyshinsky – The Prosecutor. Baku, 1908. In a crowded prison cell, two young revolutionaries argue about politics. One is a Georgian who calls himself Koba – the world would later know him as Stalin. The other is the son of a Polish Catholic family: Andrey Vyshinsky – Andrzej Wyszyński. Thirty years later, one would sign the death lists. The other would read the charges out in court. Vyshinsky had a problem: he had picked the wrong side. He was a Menshevik, from a rival socialist faction. In 1917, as a district police chief in Moscow, he signed an order to arrest Lenin as a "German spy." He joined the Bolsheviks only in 1920, once the civil war was won. A man with a past like that had one way to survive: to be more zealous than anyone. The system knew it, and used such men. Those with something to hide make the most obedient servants. The system he served didn't need courts. It needed theater. Here is how a Soviet trial worked. First, the verdict. The leadership – often Stalin himself, pencil in hand – decided who would be convicted and what the sentence would be. Then, a law to fit it. In 1934, a decree stripped "terrorism" cases of everything a court is for: ten days of investigation, the charges handed over a day before the trial, no defense, no appeal – and execution immediately after the sentence. Then, the confession. Months of interrogation: sleepless nights, interrogators working in shifts so the prisoner never rested, beatings, threats against wives and children. A decree of 1935 made children from the age of twelve subject to all criminal punishments, including death – an argument no father could resist in the interrogation room. Some were promised their lives if they confessed. Others were told that confessing was their last service to the Party. Then, the rehearsal. The testimony was learned like a role, and every confession named new accomplices, who were arrested, interrogated and made to confess in turn. Then, the performance. Vyshinsky's principle: the confession of the accused is the queen of evidence. No documents, no proof – just defendants accusing themselves of plots that never existed. From 1936 to 1938, in the Great Purge, Lenin's old comrades stood in the dock and confessed. Vyshinsky called them mad dogs and demanded that every one of them be shot. They were, within a day or two of the verdict. And the audience believed it. Foreign diplomats and writers sat in the hall, and the American ambassador reported home that the accused were guilty. The show trials were only the visible tip. For hundreds of thousands of others there was no theater at all: three-man tribunals, no defendant in the room, sentences passed in minutes. The prosecutor even helped himself to the house and money of one of his defendants, who was then shot. The machine devoured Yagoda, then Yezhov. It never came for Vyshinsky. A regime can always find a new executioner. A prosecutor who could make a lie sound like law was harder to replace. After the war, he was the Soviet power behind the scenes at Nuremberg. At a dinner there, he raised his glass to the German defendants: "May their paths lead straight from the courthouse to the grave!" The verdict before the trial – his whole method, in one toast. And the Soviet side insisted on charging the Germans with Katyn, the Soviets' own massacre of Polish officers. Then Foreign Minister, he ended his career at the United Nations, speaking of peace, and died in New York in 1954. In 1953, the year the communists arrested the Primate of Poland, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, the other Wyszyński was speaking for the Soviet Union at the UN. Same name, two Polands: one served the lie, the other refused it. The method outlived him. Decide the guilt first, then build the case. Today it is called lawfare, and the process is the punishment. Even the confession survived: the ritual public apology, demanded before any verdict. And, as in Moscow, it never saves you. Next: Yezhov.

June 6, 1944. An American paratrooper jumps into Normandy in the dark and lands on the roof of a church. By the end of the war he had been declared dead, held a funeral he didn't attend, escaped the Nazis, and fought his way toward Berlin in a Soviet tank unit. His name was Joseph Beyrle. He's believed to be the only American soldier to serve in both the US Army and the Red Army during World War Two. Beyrle was from Muskegon, Michigan. He joined the 101st Airborne, the Screaming Eagles. His buddies called him Jumpin' Joe. On D-Day night his plane was hit by flak and he jumped early. He came down on a church roof, slid off, and lost his unit in the chaos. For a few days he fought on his own, blowing up a power station and cutting German communications. Then he was captured. Here's where it gets strange. A German soldier ended up wearing Beyrle's uniform and dog tags. That German was killed. When the body was found, the Americans identified it as Joseph Beyrle. The army told his parents their son was dead. His hometown held a funeral mass for him. His obituary ran in the local paper. Meanwhile, he was very much alive, being moved from one German prison camp to another. He escaped more than once. One time he and two other prisoners jumped off a train heading east. They thought they were heading for Russia and freedom. They got lost and ended up in Berlin, where they were caught by the Gestapo, beaten, and tortured. In January 1945, from a camp in eastern Germany, he finally made a clean escape. He went east, toward the gunfire. Toward the Soviets. When he found a Soviet tank unit, he walked out with his hands up, holding a pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes, and shouted the only Russian he knew. American comrade. It worked. He asked to join them. And they said yes. For about a month, an American paratrooper rode with Soviet tank crews as they pushed toward Germany. He used his demolition training. He fought. He was reportedly welcomed by a Soviet officer who was one of the rare women commanding a tank battalion. Then a German dive bomber attacked. Beyrle was badly wounded. He was evacuated to a Soviet hospital. Soviet Marshal Georgy Zhukov reportedly visited, heard his story, and gave him papers to get to the American embassy in Moscow. When he showed up, the embassy didn't believe him. As far as the US was concerned, Joseph Beyrle was dead. They held him under guard until his fingerprints proved who he was. He made it home to Michigan in April 1945. In 1946 he got married. In the same church where they'd held his funeral. Decades later, in 1994, he was honored at the White House by President Bill Clinton and Russian President Boris Yeltsin for serving both countries. And the last twist. His son, Joseph Beyrle II, grew up to become the United States Ambassador to Russia.

Imagine wanting to send more teenagers into this. Listen to his death rattle. Full volume. That's fucking war. Right there @PeterBleksley

WHY NAZI GERMANY WAS NOT A CAPITALIST BUT A SOCIALIST STATE "The identification of Nazi Germany as a socialist state was one of the many great contributions of Ludwig von Mises." "When one remembers that the word “Nazi” was an abbreviation for “der Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiters Partei — in English translation: the National Socialist German Workers’ Party — Mises’s identification might not appear all that noteworthy. For what should one expect the economic system of a country ruled by a party with “socialist” in its name to be but socialism?" "Nevertheless, apart from Mises and his readers, practically no one thinks of Nazi Germany as a socialist state. It is far more common to believe that it represented a form of capitalism, which is what the Communists and all other Marxists have claimed." "The basis of the claim that Nazi Germany was capitalist was the fact that most industries in Nazi Germany appeared to be left in private hands." "What Mises identified was that private ownership of the means of production existed in NAME only under the Nazis and that the ACTUAL SUBSTANCE OF OWNERSHIP of the means of production resided in the German government. For it was the German government and not the NOMINAL private owners that exercised all of the substantive powers of ownership: it, not the nominal private owners, decided what was to be produced, in what quantity, by what methods, and to whom it was to be distributed, as well as what prices would be charged and what wages would be paid, and what dividends or other income the nominal private owners would be permitted to receive. The position of the alleged private owners, Mises showed, was reduced essentially to that of government pensioners." "DE FACTO government ownership of the means of production, as Mises termed it, was logically implied by such fundamental COLLECTIVIST principles embraced by the Nazis as that the COMMON GOOD comes before the private good and the individual exists as a means to the ends of the State. If the individual is a MEANS to the ends of the State, so too, of course, is his property. Just as he is owned by the State, his property is also owned by the State." 'But what specifically established de facto socialism in Nazi Germany was the introduction of price and wage controls in 1936..." — @GGReisman MORE in comments.

@RepLiccardo You care more about corrupt Ukraine than you do about Americans. Why don’t you go to Ukraine and help them fight.

Yagoda – The Builder. Every machine needs an engineer. The Soviet terror had one: Genrikh Yagoda, the man who helped turn the camps into an economy. Born in 1891 in a provincial town on the Volga, he joined the Cheka in 1919 and climbed quietly. He was no theorist and no orator – he was an organizer. By the end of the 1920s, with his chief often ill, Yagoda was the one actually running the secret police. His machine ran on one idea: prisoners are not a cost. They are a workforce. In 1930, the camps were brought under a centralized administration whose name the world would later learn: the Gulag. Deported peasants, "class enemies," priests and engineers were sent to dig, mine and cut timber in places no free man would willingly go. The camps became a slave economy, with production targets like those of any other state enterprise. His showpiece was the White Sea–Baltic Canal: more than 200 kilometres dug by prisoners through the frozen north, largely with shovels, wheelbarrows and primitive tools, in under two years. Thousands died. And when the canal was finished, it was too shallow for most large ships. In 1933, more than a hundred Soviet writers were taken on a boat trip along the canal. With Maxim Gorky as a leading editor, they produced a book celebrating the supposed transformation of prisoners into new Soviet citizens through forced labour. Useful idiots, by the boatload. The regime even named a brand of cigarettes after the canal: Belomorkanal. Russians still smoke them. The plans grew. In February 1933, Yagoda proposed deporting another two million people classified as socially harmful elements to Siberia and Kazakhstan. That spring, thousands of deportees were dumped on an island in the Ob River with virtually nothing to sustain them. Within weeks, thousands had died. Some survivors resorted to cannibalism. The place became known as Cannibal Island. And the Poles? In 1933, the Soviet secret police pursued an alleged Polish Military Organization inside the USSR. The supposed conspiracy would later become a pretext for the mass murder of Poles under NKVD Order 00485 in 1937–38, when over 111,000 people were executed. Yagoda helped build the apparatus and cultivate the imaginary enemy. His successor, Yezhov, presided over the mass killings. In 1934, Yagoda became head of the newly established NKVD. In 1936, the first great Moscow Show Trial took place under his watch. Zinoviev and Kamenev, Lenin’s old comrades, confessed to fabricated crimes and were shot. Yagoda reportedly kept the bullets that killed them as souvenirs. It wasn’t enough. That September, Stalin sent a telegram accusing Yagoda of failing to unmask the enemies of the state and declaring that the secret police were "four years behind." He was demoted, then arrested. A search of his homes uncovered luxury goods and thousands of pornographic photographs – a remarkable collection for a man who had spent years enforcing the morality of the proletarian state. At his own show trial in 1938, the builder of the machine confessed to a series of crimes, including poisoning Maxim Gorky, the writer who had helped celebrate the canal. He rejected only one charge, espionage: "If I had been a spy," he said, "dozens of countries could have closed down their intelligence services." He was shot in March 1938. The bullets that had killed Zinoviev and Kamenev were reportedly found among Yezhov’s possessions when he, too, was arrested. The machine tends to come back for its builders.

Zelensky's 5-Year Term Is Now in Year 8. Ukraine Just Extended Martial Law, and Its Election Ban, for the 21st Time. • Elected in May 2019 to a five-year term • The Constitution set his reelection for March 31, 2024. It never happened. • Martial law legally bans elections, and parliament just renewed it through Jan. 29, 2027. • Last December, Zelensky said Ukraine could vote "in the next 60-90 days." That was 10 months ago. TRUMP: “You know, they talk about a democracy, but it gets to a point where it's not a democracy anymore.”

The largest famine in human history was a timetable of a government improving on nature, and every line of it was announced as progress. 1958, January: Mao issues eight rules for farming. Two of them come from the Soviet biologist Lysenko, who taught that plants of one species do not compete, so seedlings can be sown ten times closer. Nobody in the room has farmed. 1958, spring: The Four Pests campaign. Every sparrow in China is drummed out of the sky, close to two billion birds, and the insects that fed their chicks are left alone with the wheat. 1958, spring: Deep ploughing is ordered. A metre down, in places three. A thousand years of topsoil is buried under subsoil that will not grow a weed. 1958, summer: Close planting. Seedlings packed so tight the lower leaves rot in the dark, and the fields are ventilated with electric fans and lit at night with lamps. 1958, August: Half a billion peasants are moved into communes. The private plot, the family pig and the family goat are taken into common ownership, and the pigs start dying first. 1958, autumn: Backyard furnaces. Ninety million peasants are pulled off the fields at harvest to melt their pots and tools into worthless iron, and the forests come down to fire them. 1958, winter: With the real harvest rotting unpicked in the fields, the provinces report the biggest crop in history to Beijing, 375 million tonnes, nearly double the truth. 1959: The grain quota is set on the fiction. The state takes its share of a harvest that does not exist, and ships 4 million tonnes abroad to pay for machinery. 1959, summer: The locusts arrive, then the borers, on fields with no sparrows. The counties that lost the most birds lose the most grain. 1959, July: Marshal Peng Dehuai tells Mao the countryside is starving. He is purged, and every official in China learns what honesty costs. 1960: The pig herd has halved. The oxen are eaten. In Anhui and Sichuan whole villages have nobody left strong enough to bury the dead. 1960: Beijing quietly buys a quarter of a million sparrows from Moscow, in crates, in hard currency. 1962, January: Liu Shaoqi stands up in front of seven thousand officials and calls the disaster three parts nature and seven parts man. 1962: The private plots are handed back. The family pig returns. The famine ends within the year. Three years of ploughing, planting, slaughtering and drumming against nature, and the dead run from fifteen million at the lowest count to forty-five million at the highest, in a country at peace, with a generation behind them never born. Every animal on that timeline was removed as a cost. The sparrow, the pig, the goat, the ox. The grain was the plan, and the grain was never enough. The famine ended on the day a family was allowed to keep a pig again.

ULTIMO MINUTO!

@AndrewPerpetua They’ve tried that for 4 years and it failed.
