The media today so often frame politics about winning and losing. Had they been covering John Lewis on the bridge, one shudders to think that they might have “scored” that day as a win for the Alabama troopers who met the marchers with clubs and tear gas. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/…
Coverage entirely denuded of moral content becomes camouflage for bad conduct.
@JRubinBlogger What would Joe Manchin have said during the effort to pass Voting Rights after Selma in 1965?
@JRubinBlogger The bottom line is, there's no right and wrong in the media's reporting of events, with few exceptions. The fact that there are exceptions should tell the media that it has an obligation to report news in the context of a universal imperative of truth and moral rectitude.
@JRubinBlogger This is such a strong statement! So very true. McConnell confirmed that with his statement about African Americans!
@JRubinBlogger “I think by voting this down, by not allowing us even to debate this, to get to the conclusion of a vote, that is silencing the people of America, all in the name of an archaic Senate rule that isn’t even in the Constitution. That’s just wrong.” ~@amyklobuchar
@JRubinBlogger Maybe that’s what happens when reporters stop doing actual reporting and start treating “news” like a sporting event?
@JRubinBlogger When did the DC media get this screwed up, Jen? It's not only outrageous but, more importantly, so disappointing and dispiriting
@JRubinBlogger No it was a win for democrats because the had a political weapon to use against rep...wait democrats did that.
@JRubinBlogger @AshleyRParker Jen's got a column for you to read.
