One thing I hadn’t realized is that despite everything that happened in his admin — see below on PWA — FDR was instinctually suspicious of public work projects, seeing in them the potential for inefficient/expensive waste. Harold Ickes was the program’s real savior
@JStein_WaPo @chris_kuang @JStein_WaPo my startup is working w @NYCMayor to a modern CCC, focused on climatetech. Check it out! www1.nyc.gov/office-of-the-…
@JStein_WaPo @Carrionflower1 My Dad did several tours with the #CCC before he joined the Navy in WWII.
@JStein_WaPo I’ve read historical accounts which unequivocally state these were not boys. They were men; former bankers and lawyers… and that they were not great workers.
@JStein_WaPo My Grandpa was in the CCC he used his older brothers ID to lie as he was only 16. "It was good money, I got $30 a month, took $5 to buy sodas and a plug of tobacco and sent the rest home to Mom to help pay rent" RIP
@JStein_WaPo @bungdan But for a long term impacts of the fire suppression thing, not well understood then, these seem to be some good things.
@JStein_WaPo @BudgetGOP would never pay for such things. If it doesn't go boom or cut taxes then it's never going to be supported.
@JStein_WaPo My father worked for the CCC. He planted trees in the Shades Park in Indiana. We went there often as kids. He was very proud of the park
@JStein_WaPo Tree planting is an excellent way to carbon capture
@JStein_WaPo @AOC Can’t see this happening in the 21st Century.
