How did an 800-year-old medical manuscript from medieval Serbia end up in the oldest university library at University of Bologna, Italy ? The monks at Studenica Monastery (founded c. 1186) ran one of the continent’s most advanced clinical hospitals. Saint Sava codified these medical rules in the Studenica Typikon, requiring monks to study medicine, maintain clean wards, and treat the physical illness rather than merely offer spiritual shelter, as was common in Western Europe at the time. They used these advanced Cyrillic books to run dedicated pathology wards, enforce strict quarantine zones, and perform targeted surgeries. How did this history reach Italy? Enter Count Luigi Ferdinando Marsili (1658–1730). Marsili, a brilliant Italian scientist and military general, campaigned through the Balkans during the Austro-Ottoman wars and saw ancient Orthodox monasteries looted and burned. Determined to preserve knowledge, he used his private fortune to buy and rescue over 900 rare Serbian manuscripts. In 1712 he donated the collection to the University of Bologna. The 13th-century Cyrillic translation of Saint John Damascene’s anatomical and theological works remains carefully catalogued in the temperature-controlled vaults today. Recognised as invaluable global heritage, it is not on open display. It is kept under strict microclimate protections and is accessible mainly to academic researchers and historians studying early intersections of Eastern Slavic culture and Western European science. The irony of its survival is stark. On April 6, 1941, Nazi Germany bombed Belgrade, incinerating the National Library of Serbia and destroying over 1,400 irreplaceable medieval texts. Because this manuscript rested safely in Italy, it escaped the fires of war—standing today as proof that 800 years ago Serbian monks were reading advanced scientific medical literature. Fascinated by my ancestral heritage and my Saints.

From the peak of #Kajmakčalan, you can see far below the lake where the Scottish Women’s Hospital set up their field station during the battle in 1916. 110 years later, we commemorated the costly victory of the Serbian army that opened the ‘Gate of Freedom’. #RameuzRame 🇷🇸🇬🇧

🇷🇸🇺🇸 OPERATION HALYARD - Here is the story... 🧵 1️⃣ Allied airmen are shot down In 1944, Allied aircraft were carrying out missions over Nazi-occupied Europe. Hundreds of airmen were shot down over Yugoslavia, many of them landing in Serbia. 2️⃣ Serbian forces and villagers shelter them Members of the Serbian Army, under General Draža Mihailović, together with local Serbian villagers, hid and protected the downed airmen from German forces. Families shared food and shelter with them, despite the risk of severe German reprisals. 3️⃣ A secret airstrip is built in Pranjani In the village of Pranjani, Serbian soldiers and local villagers secretly built an improvised airstrip on Galovića field. Using basic tools and working largely by hand, they built a runway from which Allied aircraft could evacuate the airmen. 4️⃣ Operation Halyard begins In August 1944, American aircraft began landing at the improvised airstrip under the coordination of the US Office of Strategic Services and Mihailović’s forces. The rescued airmen were flown to Allied-controlled territory in Italy. 5️⃣ More than 500 Allied airmen are evacuated Over the course of a wider rescue effort, more than 500 Allied airmen were evacuated from occupied Yugoslavia. Pranjani became the central and best-known evacuation point of Operation Halyard.

82 years ago, the Serbian Army risked everything to rescue more than 500 American and Allied airmen. This was Operation Halyard, the largest rescue operation behind enemy lines in World War II.

🥇🪖Members of the Serbian Armed Forces win first place at the military shooting competition in Ohio 🇷🇸🇺🇸Members of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade, the 63rd Parachute Brigade, and the Special Forces Purpose Military Police Detachment ” Cobra” won first place in the team competition in the combat pistol shooting discipline, while the Serbian Armed Forces team won first place in the overall ranking based on the combined results in rifle and pistol shooting. The success of the members of the Serbian Armed Forces comes in a year that marks the 20th anniversary of the Serbia-Ohio State Partnership Program.

The first Allied victory of WW1 is unknown to many WW1 enthusiasts. The battle of Mount Cer (Aug 1914, Serbia) was mobile, ebbing and flowing through the Jadar valley and surrounding hills. It was a huge victory for the Serbs, who “rolled the Austro-Hungarians in the dust” and…

@SerbFootyScout Are there outside influences forcing call ups? (Managers, agents etc.)

🇺🇸🇷🇸Forever a friend of the Serbian people. Forever a brother to Orthodox Christians. They murdered his body, but they could never destroy the light he carried in his soul. One year ago today, Charlie Kirk was brutally murdered. But his voice still echoes, his message still lives, and his spirit still inspires millions. You can kill a man. You can never kill an idea whose time has come. Charlie will never be forgotten.

Not that Serbs want to become a part of the EU, but if we did, this is our history!
