Once again, mainstream news outlets were briefed on the Steele dossier in fall of 2016 and chose to not publish any of the material and to not even mention its existence before the election. No one has ever suggested that was a bad or irresponsible decision.
I think it was a mistake for Twitter to prohibit ppl from linking to the NY Post's story about Hunter's laptop, but all the doubts media outlets had about its authenticity and whether it had been tampered with were totally reasonable.
@JamesSurowiecki They didn’t have to. They hinted at its contents and leaked the juiciest details. Absolutely everyone knew about the pee tape. No one wanted to read some verbose report. They just wanted the 10-second summary.
@JamesSurowiecki Also Taibbi appears to have accidentally confirmed that the Trump White House actually *was* contacting twitter to censor stuff:
@JamesSurowiecki @mehdirhasan Under @elonmusk, @twitter is now a publisher, not merely a platform. Correct? bit.ly/3ujs8Tx
@JamesSurowiecki And let us not forget the great big hug that Trump gave to Coney two days after he was inaugurated.
@JamesSurowiecki Has the Hunter laptop story been discredited & debunked in the way the Steele Dossier was? If journalists at their did their job, there could be a reason the story wasn’t reported on given how absurd many of the claims were & how difficult corroboration would have been given…
